Yeah, basically -- Hiding (aka unapproving) removes it from the list of threads in a forum, while locking leaves it there. They both prevent future posts, but we tend to hide threads with only a few posts to keep the forum clean for others.

I hid Shiny Pokemon Discussion: Odds Change? because there's no real grounds for speculation at this point; unlike hoping for a new Pokemon based on such-and-such, this is a VG-specific discussion; unlike something about the PokeDex, there's been no representation of shinies in the news; and unlike a discussion on trainer customization, this whole discussion is fairly bland at the moment: Will they change the shiny chances? Will they not change the shiny chances? What would they change the chances to? Would there be any items to help or hinder your chances? -- etc., etc., etc. There's just not much to be said, at least at the very moment.

jjg35, speaking of favorites... who are your top 10 pokemon?
mine are (1 - 10) Glaceon, Sylveon, Raichu, Vaporeon, Staraptor, Talonflame, Walrein, Feraligatr, Rhyperior, Electivire

just got a new shiny eevee to save for Sylveon (hopefully)
you better start collecting shiny Mewtwos and Eevees!
I got 1 Shiny M2 (Mr.Pickles) and a shiny eevee for both genders
