“Storm Emeralda” Set Trademarked for the Pokemon TCG!
A new trademark for Storm Emeralda (ストームエメラルダ) has been filed by Pokemon. It's under the same terms as trademarks used for set names in the past.
The name sounds like it's referring to Rayquaza, the mascot of Pokemon Emerald who lives in the ozone layer. If so, the set could feature Mega Rayquaza ex. In the lore of the games, Rayquaza was the first Pokemon to ever Mega Evolve.
M Rayquaza-EX was the star of 2015's XY: Roaring Skies set.
We usually discover trademarks around six months before they go into use.
If Ninja Spinner and Storm Emeralda have been revealed in the correct order, which sometimes isn't the case for trademarks, Japan could see Storm Emeralda in November or December.
Here is the current Japanese TCG schedule:
- August 1st: Mega Brave and Mega Symphonia featuring Mega Lucario ex and Mega Gardevoir ex.
- September 5th: Two preconstructed decks named “Starter Set Mega Gengar ex” and “Starter Set Mega Diancie ex.”
- September 26th: Inferno X featuring Mega Charizard (X) ex.
- October 16th: Legends: Z-A releases worldwide.
- October (?): Ninja Spinner featuring Mega Greninja ex?
- November (?): Storm Emeralda featuring Mega Rayquaza ex?
Update: The set is technically named Storm Emeralda with an "a" at the end, not Storm Emerald. This could be a reference to Legends: Z-A.
