Aerodactyl and Old Amber Fossil from “Pokemon Card 151!”

We now have images of Aerodactyl and Old Amber Fossil from Pokemon Card 151!

All of the Fossil Pokemon have now been revealed, except Old Helix Fossil.

Pokemon Card 151 will release in Japan on June 16th. We expect to it release internationally as a special set this fall.

Old Amber Fossil – Trainer – HP60
Item – Evolves into Aerodactyl

Play this card as if it were a 60-HP [C] Basic Pokemon. At any time during your turn, you may discard this card from play.

This card can’t be affected by any Special Conditions, and it can’t retreat.

Ability: Amber Protection
Prevent all effects of your opponent’s Pokemon’s Abilities done to this Pokemon.

You may play as many Item cards as you like during your turn.

Aerodactyl – Colorless – HP130
Stage 1 – Evolves from Old Amber Fossil

[G] Glide: 30 damage.

[C][C] Degeneration Arc: 100 damage. If your opponent’s Active Pokemon is an evolved Pokemon, devolve it by putting the highest Stage Evolution card on it into your opponent’s hand.

Weakness: Lightning (x2)
Resistance: Fighting (-30)
Retreat: 0

Thanks goes to Bangiras and JustInBasil for the translations!

This kind of attack appeared before, but this seems to be the most powercreeped version of it - two colorless for 100 + effect. On VSTARs this does around 60 "virtual" damage, on VMAXes it can be over a 100. Gardevoir ex gets knocked out immediately (and probably a lot of evolving exs in the future will as well).
It's honestly not terrible.

It takes an evolved pokemon to beat an evolved pokemon. :D

I'm split on Shinji Kanda's work. On the one hand it's so unique and avant garde and blurs the line between childhood doodles and professional commissions, yet on the other hand the color choices are so dark and flat like all the new DC movies this past decade. What do you think?

Old Amber Fossil eh? Interesting. So Old Helix Fossil, Old Dome Fossil and Old Amber Fossil all have the ability to evolve into any Omanyte (excluding Dark Omanyte), Kabuto and Aerodactyl (excluding any Aerodactyl ex, Aerodactyl EX, Aerodactyl V and Aerodactyl GX) respectively. How will they do the Galar Fossil Pokémon in the near future? Either way, I hope both Kabuto and Kabutops get a Water card soon, it wouldn't even matter if the Water Kabutops is a Kabutops ex.

I agree with a "not terrible" assessment. Devolution has a valid place in the game--some decks unironically ran Ancient TM Machine Rock, but it's a lot rougher with the big HP on multi-prizers. Basically useless on VSTAR Pokémon and just generally less valuable than a format where 1 KO = 1 KO.

While you ""KO"" Gardevoir, you only get the 1 prize card for it, and they're quite likely to have several Kirlia ready in reserve (and the Gardevoir is right there in the hand). The resource investment just isn't worth it compared to whatever else your deck could be running.

To truly have an impact, I think they'd need to significantly power creep the effect to something that lets you score the bonus prize cards when you hit an ex.
After calculating damage, if your opponent’s Active Pokemon is an evolved Pokemon with less remaining HP than its previous Stage's maximum HP, that Pokémon is Knocked Out.

some decks unironically ran Ancient TM Machine Rock,
Apples and oranges. ATM Rock wasn't a Stage 1 that evolves from an Item card, devolved everyone for a single Energy instead of just the Defending Pokemon, and was only used in like two decks anyway.

This thing will never be good, even after VMAXes rotate, even in a format with Arven and Irida. It's just not worth the effort.

Yeah, that's more or less the point I was getting at. Devolution can have a place, but it isn't this meta and Aerodactyl certainly isn't it.

When I say the card isn't terrible, I mean it in the same way that Battle Styles Fearow isn't terrible; it stands out and makes me think "I could find a place for this", whether it's a draft cube slot, a Baby Standard (single-prize only) tech in Zoroark Box to knock out cards that tend to have large hp jumps when evolving, etc.

There's a whole slew of cards like Dedenne or Gogoat SVI that just do no nothing and don't make me care about them either.

1 Prize Golurk. I thought they would bring back a devolver. Was hoping for an ability like the old porygon z that does a sweep devolution on all opponent's pokemon though. Oh well, can't be greedy i guess..? But I'm still keeping my fingers crossed. ? ?

Specially with the graininess of the image, I shit you not, it looks like he's found himself in bloody Phyrexia for some reason. lmao Does anyone else see it?

Oh it’s hard to agree tbh, yeah colors are dark and it’s visible on magikarp and giratina mostly but have u seen his cards irl? Slowbro or Bronzong are kinda dark but they feel so alive and bright irl I can’t stand and call it my fav artist

Feel free to correct me if I am wrong, but is it new that the Fossil Item card shows what Pokemon it can "evolve" into?

It's not new, but we haven't seen cards list what they evolve into since Skyridge.
