‘Detective Pikachu’ TCG Products Announced for Spring!
TPCi will be releasing at least six TCG products to tie in to the release of May 10th’s Detective Pikachu movie!
Each product will contain Pokemon TCG: Detective Pikachu booster packs. Theoretically this means it will be a special set like Generations, Shining Legends, Dragon Majesty, etc. What cards the set will contain is currently unknown. We’ll be on the case, though!
Case Files
March 29th will see the release of a “Detective Pikachu Case File” and a “Detective Pikachu Special Case File.” These will be released about six weeks ahead of the film.
The first will come with two Pokemon TCG: Detective Pikachu booster packs, a booster pack from a regular set, one holo promo card, one coin, and a PTCGO code card.
The special version will come with the above plus a 4-pocket binder.
I’m not yet sure what form these products come in — maybe an A4 folder since it’s a “case file?” Though I don’t think one of those mini-binders fits into a folder, assuming it’s the same kind of mini-binder we’ve seen before.
Character Case Files
The second set of products are three “Character Case Files,” also releasing on March 29th. They are named the “Detective Pikachu Character GX Case File,” the “Detective Pikachu Charizard-GX Case File,” and the “Detective Pikachu Greninja-GX Case File.”
Each will contain four Detective Pikachu booster packs, a GX promo card, a jumbo version of that card, two Pokemon TCG booster packs from regular sets, and a PTCGO code card.
The Greninja file is listed as containing one extra Detective Pikachu booster pack and a pin. This means it will be a larger version of the other two.
The Charizard and Greninja files will obviously come with Charizard-GX and Greninja-GX (likely alternate art reprints), but the first case file’s GX card is purposefully unstated. This is probably because it features a special character from the movie that they don’t want us to know about right now. We know from the movie’s Japanese comic description that Mewtwo and Mew are part of the movie, and Mewtwo is in the original game, so maybe it’s Mewtwo-GX? Because, you know, the TCG loves to feature Mewtwo, Charizard, Darkrai, etc.
Collector’s Tin
A Detective Pikachu Collector’s Chest Tin will hit store shelves on May 3rd, a week before the movie is released.
The contents will be a bit different than usual collector’s tins. It will come with seven Detective Pikachu booster packs, two packs from regular sets, a special collector’s pin, a notepad, a set of stickers, and a PTCGO code card.
