Japan’s December Sets: ‘Ultra Sun’ and ‘Ultra Moon!’

According to preliminary product listings, Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon will be the names of Japan’s next sets! They will release in stores on December 8th.

Each set will feature a whopping 78 cards (excluding secret rares), so the combined total will be 156+ cards. This would make them the largest combined sets since 2014’s XY5 Gaia Volcano and Tidal Storm sets, which had 70 cards each before including secret rares.

Typically a double set like SM1 Collection Sun and Collection Moon will contain around 50 cards per set whereas a singular set like XY10 Awakening of the Psychic King will have around 70 cards. So each of these sets is the same size as a singular set!

The set mascots will likely be the Solgaleo and Lunala “formes” that have fused with Necrozma. We still don’t know what those “formes” are. Two sets of deck boxes will also be released on December 8th, presumably featuring both Pokemon.

We should have Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon booster pack images and more information within the next few weeks, so keep checking back!

Next week, Japan’s SM4 sets will be released featuring Nihilego-GX, Guzzlord-GX, Buzzwole-GX, Kartana-GX, Silvally-GX, Alolan Exeggutor-GX, and more. We should have images and translations of the sets starting Tuesday.

On October 20th, we’ll get Japan’s SM4+ set, GX Battle Boost. It will feature Solgaleo-GX, Lunala-GX, Pheromosa-GX, Xurkitree-GX, and Celesteela-GX.
