XY74 'Laverre Gym Battle! The Beautiful Fairy Trap!!'

Wait... what?! O_O Ash won this one?!

I was COMPLETELY convinced he'd lose, hence his training the next episode! It's also really odd seeing a GL this late on in a league, only using two Pokémon. She also appeared to have used her strongest Pokémon first and her wild card last.

Anyway, I guess this time both Fletchinder and Hawlucha starred, which means Noibat will probably star against Olympia and 6th mon or Pikachu against Wulfric.

I wasn't super surprised at Ash's win, but mostly for meta-reasons due to upcoming episodes and such, since they go back to traveling after this one and it wouldn't seem to fit. I do like that he used Fletchinder and Hawlucha instead of Pikachu, though; those birds aren't getting as much screentime compared to Pikachu/Frogadier, and I still want to see a Talonflame evolution.

Yeah, surprised Fletchinder didn't evolve, as now would have been a good time for it.
Anyway, at least Hawlucha wasn't the fall guy again and got a victory.

Oh and Ash went traveling after he lost against Brawly, so I thought he'd have a re-match against Valerie when he caught Noibat.

I want to see Fletchinder become Talonflame too. Precendent would indicate that we will see that since he's had every final evolution of each region's bird since the start. Pidgeotto/Pidgeot for Kanto, Noctowl (shiny) for Johto, Taillow/Swellow for Hoenn, Starly/Staravia/Staraptor for Sinnon, and Pidove/Tranquill/Unfezant for Unova. There is little reason to assume we won't see Talonflame eventually.

Which is when they turn around and not do it. :)

I'm glad Hawlucha got its time to shine, but... X-Scissor? Really? They had it kick ass in a Fairy Gym thanks to a Bug move? Especially when Steel Wing and Poison Jab are both very viable possibilities for it! I'll admit it- I'm more sore about them passing up a perfect opportunity to teach Hawlucha Poison Jab than anything else.
