Collecting What's your all-time favourite TCG set?

Evolutions.
One, it got me into the game. But two, it's kind of Wizard's fault.
If you've never played Magic, you might not know that Wizards have an exact opposite approach than TPCi's "REMEMBER KANTO?". Yes, they still often pander to nostalgia (I mean, it's a 26-yo brand), but they equally hate and reject their old sets and design philosophies. They've openly stated that they won't bring back "old card frames", even as promotional cards, because they subjectively don't like how they look.

In that case, Evolutions is everything I wanted from Magic, but in Pokemon. A massive nostalgia kick that goes all out and isn't pretentious about it. I just wish it was bigger and contained casually-playable Supporter cards.
That's really interesting, I don't play MTG myself so I had no idea.

(slowly turns to dust and blows away because I was already in my mid-20s when BW sets were releasing)

My favourite booster pack of all time is Dark Explorers. I love the full art Darkrai, and when I was new to the game my first full art pull was a full art darkrai. It also helps that there are several EX's that are from that set that I like as well as having the sr catcher, and archeops

Ok. I'm going with an old set, and it's not a well liked one, but here it goes:

Neo Destiny.

When I first got in the game, I played from Base-Expedition. I loved how they handled the uniqueness of Dark Pokemon (the Team Rocket-defiled cards, not the Darkness type) and we were getting more Dark Pokemon with equally crazy attacks, and Pokemon Powers. And they tried their hand at a new mechanic: Light Pokemon, as well as give us a bunch of Shining Pokemon as chase rares in the set (both of which had next to no support and Light and Shining Pokemon in those days were AWFUL outside of booster drafting). The set itself was pretty big and was basically "Team Rocket 2 plus other stuff". There was a lof of cards, while not the most competitive in Unlimited, that were REALLY fun to booster draft with and work with the "Rocket-on" format. I know the set gets a lot of flak for being a dud of a set (to counter that, Neo Discovery and Neo Revelations were aeons worse and felt like Jungle and Fossil redux. They were sets to get the next gen out there, but nothing was really outstanding or fun or quirky or interesting).

Part of it is nostalgia (the art of Dark Gengar and the set having THE most useless Special Energy ever released in the TCG: Miracle Energy. But Miracle Energy has the best art for any Special Energy card out there and I'll fight anyone on that. Part of it is it being a really fun set to tinker around with. I was very enthralled by this set that when Expedition was released, I felt like the wind was taken out of me. Expedition was AWFUL for all intents and purposes. I even went in the Air Force because I wanted to be away from the E-Reader sets that much. No one told me that it was just 3 sets and it was just a phase. I was a stupid kid.

My brain says evolutions, my heart says primal clash. I started trying to play competitively when evolutions came out and while it was a pretty bad set I milked that Beedrill deck for absolutely everything it was worth. But good god that pack/playmate art of primal kyogre
