If there haven't been any new posts in a long time prior to the new post, then yes, the thread will probably be locked.
Otherwise, it should be okay. As a rule of thumb, if someone's thread is dead, don't reply in it. Send them a PM instead if you'd like to do a deal.
If it's your own thread, go ahead and post in it. Remember, you only get one.
