Weirdest anime plot!!

I just watched the fortree city gym battle episode. Winnona's first poke is an altaria and ash chose his grovyle. grovyle managed to keep on battling even after a barrage of peck attack and dragon-breath! but when grovyle attacked altaria with a leaf-blade, altaria was out in just one blow!! how uncool! i mean altaria is a flying/dragon type. grass attacks are weak to both the types. how can altaria gets knocked out to that??
does anything gets weirder than this??

What I'm trying to say is that there's no logic in the anime, and there's no point in trying to find any.
