During a battle, I use Top Drop against my friend's Darkrai LV.X. Darkrai LV.X has a weakness to {F} Pokemon, by x2. I Top Drop a Bronzong MD, which has 90 HP. My friend claims the attack only does 90 damage because it is "equal" to the HP of card I Top Dropped. I thought you multiplied by 2, because it is like doing damage that is already assigned on the card.

Please help! Thanks!

You do inflict 90 damage times two. The text says that you do damage, not placing any damage counters. Doing damage does get affected by resistance, so my answer would be yes, weakness is applied.

From what I can tell, Top Drop says "this attack does damage equal to the HP of that pokemon." It doesn't say "place damage counters equal to the HP of that pokemon." Since it's damage and not damage counters, it should apply weakness.

Weakness is applied, of course. You are correct. Essentially, it is as if it is becoming the base damage of Top Drop, if I had to compare it to something. In that case, you would have done 180 damage. :3

Edit: double ninja'd. Oh! 'Tis the shame!
