I done alot of researching of Pokemon, here are some guides of how the creator create Pokemon:
- Everyone knows by now that every Pokemon need a starter Pokemon, Grass, Fire and Water. Starters can be neither pure or may have two types (mainly types that are physical moves: like steel, flying, ground and fighting).
- Every region in each generation must have a bird and rodent, (sometimes bug type Pokemon) Pokemon, after the starters.
- There will always be a legendary trios, a version mascot of three legendary Pokemon, uber and cute legendary Pokemon. According of what I know, the even generation have some trio masters (the one who oversees the legendary trio).
- every generation have one pet-based pokemon (like a cat or dog) that are normal type.
- every generation must have a pikachu-like creature Pokemon with a electric type.
- Every even generations have more of baby pokemon and pokemon that evolved from pokemon that are from the previous generation. While the odd generation doesn't have much.
- Nearly all of the pokemon species are based on common animals, plants, myth and things that we always see, read and know about.
- The eeveelutions are only on the even generation.
- every generation must have a plant based pokemon that James will catch.

I'll try to find out more soon, to know more about the future generation, look at this link : http://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Future_generation

Agree with everything except for the Eeveelutions. In gen 1 there were already 3 evolutions.

for the plant pokemon that james has it would have to be one that could bite him
and i think he was talking about eeveelutions besides the 1st gen ones

And what are these guidelines for? To make their life easier at creating new Pokemon. It's seriously effortless.

Don't forget, each generation has one utterly worthless Pokemon in terms of competitive play ;D

Gen 1: Farfetch'd
Gen 2: Unown
Gen 3: Luvdisc
Gen 4: Garch- I mean, Kricketune

You must mean OU play scampy. Garch- I mean Kricketune is great in UU.

dmaster out.

There really only is three that are strict guidelines. The trio at the beginning, and a trio at the end (legendary). Basing them off real life ones just makes it easier than trying to make up something completely original which is rather impossible already. Plus it relates more to EArth that way.

I'm thinkning the rest are just our assumptions. The rodent thing might have some value, almost each game we start with some random Normal-type ratthing that we tend to have to catch, being Rattata, Sentret, Zigzagoon, and Bidoof.
