Ruling Special Metal Energy

If I attach a Special Metal to one of my Pokemon that is a Steel type (lets say Heatran, but the pokemon itself doesn't matter), then he levels up to his Lv X, which is a fire type. Would the Special Metal energy still give its bonus?

...The answer is no, as Heatran is no longer {M} type. Leveling-up does not copy the type of the Pokemon below it. So Torterra LV.X is always {G}, even if it leveled up from Torterra SF (which is Fighting-type).
