At 9pm Friday night me and two friends ,Curtis Dietrich and Connor Murphy, decided to drive out to Oswego ,IL for the Battle Roads on Saturday. After noticing there was a BR in Ames which is half the driving distance from Minneapolis we thought that was a better choice.
After no sleep, testing, and switching decks every hour, we decided to leave at 4am. Stopping at Mystic Lake on the way I managed to lose $80 on the slots after 2 hours of playing. Now finally on the road from Iowa we were discussing deck choices for today. I was pretty set on playing Donphan Dodrio which I got 3rd place in the modified at Nationals, only to end up losing to a tech Simisear in top 4. After we arrived and took a quick look at the meta game I decide to play the following deck ;

Pokemon-
2 Zekrom
2-2 Donphan
3-2-2 Vileplume
3-2-2 Reuniclus
1-1 Blissey
1-1 Suicune + Entei Legend
1 Cleffa
2 Pichu

T/S/S

4 Pont
4Sage's
4Twins
3 Collector
2 Seeker
1Copycat
3 RareCandy

Energy-
4 Rainbow
4 Double
3 Fighting
1 Fire

Round 1- V.s. ??? with Speed Gothitel

I turn two Vileplume, turn three Reuniclus , Turn 4 twins for SEL , Game over

1-0

Round 2- Connor with Zekrom

I start really slow, after a few turns I PONT for 2 Twins, and an odish or two. So after connor takes four prizes I finally get my reuniclus and vileplume out at this point Its gonna be hard to come back. Eventually the prize count is 5-1 , I start knocking out some zekrom and a pachi. Now After taking 3 prizes I find I really need to set up another plume or zekrom to move damage to. So I twins, my other Zekrom and Gloom where still Prized. I get chancey and a DCE, Next turn I top deck Blissey and he scoops.

2-0

Round 3- Curtis with Gothitel Reuniclus
I start Pichu, and 3 other Basics with a PONT, Decide better to not playground and help him set up too. I collector and the Judge see I have no prizes out. Whoops. I get a Game Loss after about 20 minutes of them looking up the rules. Seriously Iowa's Judge was the worst judge I've ever had. He knew nothing about that game. He also favored another Iowa players and game them different Rulings then us. Another player also had no prizes out on turn 3 and was not given a game loss. But whatever I decide not to say anything.

2-1

Round 4 - ??? with Audino Liliganth
I set up quick, Not to much to work when I can move damage around and retreat for one energy. Easy match

3-1

Round 5- The Undefeated player with Reshiboar Ninetales

He got paired down. So at this point with a little calculation I figure out that Even If I lose this match I will still top cut from tie breakers. So I just have fun now. I start Odish,
My hand consisted of
1 Blissy
2 gloom
1 Donphan
1 Seeker
1 Candy

He goes first collectors, I need to make a top deck

Top deck is.... Seeker - Oh boy...
3-2

So I lose but I already know I made top cut. We go and get some food, I left Jimmy Jon's right before Jay H. walked in, Would have liked to say hi, haven't seen him sense Nats. Go back and the bad judge tells me my list is wrong and I had to Replace a Pichu with a Basic Energy. At this point I'm pretty mad at this horrible judge but let it go. I go complain to Connor and the other top cut as we smoke waiting for the the finals.

Top 4 V.s. Same guy as last round.

I start decent, get set up, after promoting my SEL he can not one shot it. He Scoops

Round 2- I get everything set up, Twins for my dog and see its prized. I scoop go to game 3.

Round 3 - I get Vileplume out turn 2, He has to take 4 prizes before I get the dog out so
he sets up while I do so I cant use twins. I top one piece, put 20 on his Reshiram with Zekrom. he comes back at me for 40, I move the damage off and repeat. I kill my own Zekrom with Reuniclus, Twins for SEL and a DCE. Get the dog down let him take another prizes, I take 4 prizes, he has a Cyndiquil and a Ninetails on the bench, I snipe the Ninetales and he scoops.

Top 2 V.s. ??? with Reshiplotion + Ninetails

Round 1 - I set up too late and scoop for game two.

Round 2- I set up about turn 5 and He stalls it out as long as possible. I snipe for the Final Prize.

Round 3- According to "Bad Judge" he have 21 Minutes left. We trade off prizes He gets to 4 so I twins, get the dog set up. Next turn take a prize. He sends up a Typhlo and knocks off my double so I retreat and pass, He knocks out my gloom. I twins for a double and rainbow. attach double. Now I kill his last Typhlo and he scoops

Now after a little conversing and a smoke we head back to Minneapolis. I take a wrong turn and add a half an hour onto the trip :)

Slops:
No Sleep
Iowa
Not running Po Comm
Losing $80 at the Casino
With all the effort an Iowa player still managed to get points :(
The Weather
The gas and time driving for a Battle roads

Props:
Winning
Curtis and Connor loaning me cards
Not driving to IL
The 3G Coverage in Iowa compared to MPLS

After everything we decided driving over 4 hours for a Battle Roads is not worth it, but we will most likely go back to Iowa next weekend.

By any chance was Jay there? If he was, what place did he get? Good job getting first. I would probably just gone with a prize penalty in the no prizes situations being the BRs is the lowest rated and how early the game was. I believe you can submit feedback for a tournament by using the support portal on pokemon.com unless I'm mistaken.

Yea. Our regional director always says it is a prize penalty if they have searched the deck. Otherwise if they haven't they just lay the top six down and go from there.

OT: Good job getting first first. I like your deck list. Are there ever really any hard match ups with it?

Jay was not there, he got banned from mayham comics for awhile. I may have to leave some bad feedback :p

Not too many hard match ups, If you can get set up and know what your doing there is not much there other player can do. Unless they play jarachi ...
