Discussion should Game Freak, focus on making a game that is inovative and fun, or another nostalgia bait? What would be something new and fun to you guys?

We have seen new spin-offs and Legends: Arceus, so I’d say they’ve tried a fair number of innovations. Continuing to find fresh takes on the core series games rather than just repeating the Legends formula would be cool though.
Of course, a lot of Pokémon’s spinoffs have been based on existing games or genres, so perhaps innovation isn’t the right word for all of them. At the same time, this introduces people like me who are more Pokémon super fans than video game super fans to genres we wouldn’t otherwise have played.
I’m personally thankful Pokémon gave the Mystery Dungeon series a chance, as Explorers of Darkness has been one of my favorite games in the franchise, up there with Legends: Arceus.
As for things Pokémon could try that others haven’t, that’s a little more difficult to answer.

I think they should try to come up with new things. Gamefreak should have tried to make battles like they are in the show. The new battle structure in Z-A seems kind of disappointing, but at least they tried.

As for me, the Pokémon series has long balanced innovation with nostalgia, a strategy that has both captivated and divided its fanbase. While titles like Pokémon Legends: Arceus have introduced fresh gameplay mechanics, some players feel that the core series remains tethered to familiar formulas.

I feel like they desperately need to go back to 2D. I think a lot of 3d pokemon has been downhill and something like an octopath traveler 2.5D would be the perfect niche for gamefreak to fill. It's clear they've done their best work in the 2D space, and returning to 2D or 2.5D would be a welcome return.

Honestly, I’d love to see Game Freak focus on innovation and fun. Nostalgia definitely sells (and I'm not mad about the occasional throwback), but it would be refreshing to see them take risks—new regions with deeper stories, more open-world elements that actually feel alive, or even branching into different genres like a cozy sim/RPG hybrid.

That said, nostalgia is kind of like wearing a bra you’ve had since forever—it might feel familiar, but if it’s not actually supporting anything new, it’s just holding you back (literally and figuratively 😂). Maybe it’s time Game Freak checked their creative bra size calculator—because what fit back in 1996 might not be what they need now to keep things uplifting!

So yeah, innovation please. And also, yes to a Pokémon game where we can finally customize our stories as much as our outfits.

And it's not only about Pokemon games but about any other games. I like when he has some crossovers, updates, and so on, but playing something new is always more interesting. I also like playing some casino games, but I can play the same game a few times, and then I always look for something new. And the choice is huge, so it's not a problem. Here is the site https://kaszino-world.com/befizetes-nelkuli-bonusz/20-euro/ where I've been looking for new sites to play, which also offers 20 euro no deposit bonus. I like such a bonus the most, and on that site, you have all the info needed to choose the best site to try. So I don't see a point in playing the same games again and again. If you can try something new, maybe it will be even better.
I agree with you. I like games that make you nostalgic, it's a good feeling.
But I prefer trying something new, having those fresh emotions.

You struck a great balance between humor and thoughtful critique. Game Freak really could benefit from reassessing what "support" looks like in 2025—because fans aren't just looking for a nostalgia comfort blanket anymore. We're ready for bold storytelling, dynamic world-building, and mechanics that actually evolve alongside the player base.

While nostalgic games are very rewarding to loyalists who enjoy the series and do not mind the carbon-copy story and design, it’s time for innovation to the series. Remastering, following the same pattern, or trying to keep one shape is a safer design short-term but will phase out future generations and the series would slowly die out. Playing the older games was a ton of fun, but as I got older, it personally became very repetitive to me and I’m sure many fans could attest to that. I don’t know many series that can keep the exact same design and stay successful. Breath of the Wild was an amazing game yet had a new open world design. The games headed in the right direction and it won’t be long before they perfect it. I remember watching the anime as a kid and thinking how cool it’d be to have live battles the entire fight instead of turn based! Slowly becoming a reality to the series

What do you mean by live battles?

Like, your Pokémon can run around and doge the attacks live. Like when Pikachu would dodge attacks and then counter with an attack in the show, it felt like there was more pressure and a lot more realistic! In the trailer, it was showing Lucario run from Pyroar's flamethrower attack and it looks pretty exciting. I skipped Arceus (just picked it up after getting the Switch 2 but have yet to play it, but when I was in line for a Journey Together drop, people were saying it's similar playstyle to Arc) but the trailers look pretty sweet :)

Yeah, I get what you're saying. Ironically, right before Z-A was announced, I was hoping that Gamefreak would come out with some game that was like the anime, where they are constantly dodging and attacking. This new way of battling might not be perfect for everybody, but it is a step in the right direction.

Agreed, do you still find all the repeat games still exciting? After black and white, I skipped a few and bought SWSH. Skipped Violet, then purchased Arceus

I feel like you & your opponent will just keep dodging each other's attacks and not hit anything. I never played Legends Arceus.

Yeah, the first game I played (Sun) was exciting, but as it went on, the games were repetitive. I found myself less willing to battle as it went on, to the point where in Scarlet I just didn't fight any of the unnecessary battles. With this new battle mechanic, I might be more willing to fight all the battles. And we can finally get rid of the accuracy and evasion stats, FINALLY they can be gone. Good riddance I say.

Well then, we'll just have to do better at fighting. If you and your opponent can't land any hits on each other then something is wrong. Gamefreak is going to make the bots just bad enough that they can't dodge all the attacks.
