Hey Beachers,

I saw this deck idea on the youtube channel google.

The idea is to put item lock on your opponent with Quaking Punch and use Decidueye's ability to snipe benched Pokemon and add extra damage. Similar to Toad/Bats, but I think this will be better because of Forest of Giant Plants, Devolution spray, and the fact that you can use Feather Arrow once per turn instead of the evolution trigger.

Adding in techs leaves the deck tight on space, so I am wondering what people think should be dropped or added in. Here is a Skeleton list I have crafted.

Pokemon: 17
3x Seismitoad-EX (FFI #106)
4x Rowlet (SM #9)
4x Dartrix (Sun and Moon probably #10)
4x Decidueye-GX (SM #12)
2x Shaymin-EX (ROS #77)

Trainers: 34
4x Ultra Ball (ROS #93)
4x VS Seeker (PHF #109)
4x Devolution Spray (FAC #95)
3x Trainers' Mail (ROS #92)
1x Level Ball (AOR #76)
1x Super Rod (BKT #149)
1x Revitalizer (GEN #70)
1x Special Charge (STS #105)

1x Scoop Up Cyclone (PLB #95)

2x Float Stone (BKT #137)

4x Professor Sycamore (STS #114)
2x N (PRBW #100)
1x Lysandre (AOR #78)
1x AZ (PHF #91)

4x Forest of Giant Plants (AOR #74)

Energy: 4

4x Double Colourless Energy (XY #130)

Open Spaces: 5

A quick note on devolution - if you use cards like Scoop Ups or Devolution Spray on Decidueye, then the ruling is that you can use the Feather Arrow ability again, because it is a new Pokemon. Forest of Giant Plants also overrides Devolution Spray's ruling of "That Pokemon cannot evolve again this turn".

Possible Additions:

- Tool removal: Xerosic, Startling Megaphone or Tool Scrapper. Tool removal is important for if they break item lock or get a float stone on a Trubbish before you attack. Garbodor is bad news.

- Espeon-EX: Devolution can win you games with this deck. The idea is to get as many damage counters on evolved Pokemon as you can, then late game attack with Espeon and take a lot of prize cards.

- Toad Tools: Muscle Band or Fighting Fury Belt. Each player likes to play differently, so you can decide what you play. I think I will play one of each.

- Super Scoop Up: With a coin flip, you can put a Decidueye back into your hand, put it back down and use Feather Arrow again. If you can make room for scoop ups, I would definitely recommend putting them in.

-
Puzzle of Time: Retrieving cards is SO good. Again if you can make room for them, It is definitely worth it

- Basic Energy - You can play Water Energy for Grenade Hammer, or use Grass Energy for Hollow Hunt GX. I like Grass Energy, because then you can get devolution Spray, Scoop Up Cyclone, and DCE out of your discard pile with Decidueye's GX attack. also, you can use Razor Leaf for 90 damage if needed (maybe for the last turn knockout)

Let me know your thoughts!

Edit: Dartrix is confirmed to be SM #10

Looks interesting... A few random thoughts I initially have:
  • Pokémon Ranger can nullify Toad's Item-lock; so, "Item-locking" should not be as "crippling" as it were before Pokémon Ranger was available.
  • Decks that can take advantage of Rough Seas will be tough match-ups.
  • Should your opponent play Garbodor, will Toad's Quaking Punch be sufficient to win games? (Personally, I liked having the Grenade Hammer attack option; so, a few W energy could be helpful.)
If you build and test this deck, I'd be interested in your findings. Thanks.

Pokemon Ranger is usually played as a one off, if played at all, so once Pokemon Ranger has been used, you reapply item lock to get rid of VS Seeker use.

Rough Seas is a tough matchup, You need to play 4 ForestOGP to help get rid of stadiums. If Rough seas stays in play, use Decidueye's ability on just one Pokemon, and you can also use Rough Seas to heal Seismitoad.

Garbodor is interesting. I would still play Xerosic for Special Energy, and you have it there to use for tools if you should have trouble with them.

As far as testing goes, I am saving all my packs to trade for my 4 Decidueye-GX. Hopefully I can get them quickly and test ASAP.

I had a similar situation by being Item-locked via Vilplume. Fortunately, I got a Hex Maniac, played it and the Items I had, and also used a VS Seeker to retrieve the Hex Manic for later use. Between that 1st Hex Maniac play and the subsequent 1 (where I was able to play Items again), I was able to recover sufficiently to win the game.

By the way, have you considered reserving 1 of your current open deck slots for an additional switching card in order to get your anticipated Lysandre'd Decidueye GX out of the active position?

One of my Poké pals is REALLY hyping this deck; so, we plan to play-test this weekend using proxies. Hope your testing goes well. I'd be interested in your results. Thanks.

Escape Rope or Switch can be played to help with that, so I might try put one in.

This deck's inability to deal great damage is its greatest weakness. It gets wrecked by M-Audino-ex, for example, which can deal tons of damage and even kill the evolving grass pokemon.
