Chapter one: The region of Kanto
The land of Kanto was once a noble and carefree place to live. Each of the of the cities of Kanto was ruled by their respective Gym Leader. The Gym Leaders took care of their people in the most noble fashion. And for a time, it was a safe place for anyone who wished to live on this beautiful continent. Until that fateful day... In which Kanto was usurped. One day, an unhappy man named Giovanni, who was the Gym Leader of Viridian City, created a mob of organized crime to carry out his bidding for him; It was the birth of Team Rocket! They attacked the nearest city, Pewter City, and defeated Brock, the Gym Leader of that town, who they imprisoned for his resistance. Using the usurped town to their advantage, Team Rocket grew into a legion of crime. They stole important artifacts from ruins, they robbed Trainers of useful Technical Machines, and they even took Pokemon from some people! In order to protect their cities from the wrath of Team Rocket, the other Gym Leaders quickly made a truce with Giovanni; In exchange for peace, they would provide him with Technical Machines, and rare Pokemon. But then, one day, Giovanni's rule was challenged. A Trainer named Xavier defeated the Rockets in Pewter City, and he had freed Brock from his prison. Infuriated with this drastic turn of events, Giovanni rushed over to Pewter City as fast as he could. It was here where he challenged Xavier to a Pokemon Battle. Xavier used a single Pokemon to Giovanni's six, but he still won, through the usage of a mystical power called Aura, which he and his Pokemon could control. Giovanni was defeated temporarily, and he fled with Team Rocket to some nearby caves. And for a while, the Gym Leaders didn't have to worry about Team Rocket. Xavier devised an open trade system with the other regions; Johto, Hoenn, and Sinnoh. And so Kanto prospered, and bloomed into an even greater region than ever before. But for reasons unknown, Xavier vanished off of the face of the Earth forever. Many searches had been established, but they all failed. And then, Giovanni and Team Rocket returned. He had passed out a threat stating that if Xavier ever showed his face on Kanto again, that he would destroy the many little towns that appeared here and there in the Kanto region. He took his rule again, and his grunts carried out his orders. He demanded more Technical Machines and Pokemon than ever before. And if anyone refused to provide him with either of these, he would send them to the Rocket Prison, which was the fate of the Gym Leaders Brock and Blaine. Then, he canceled all trade connections with the other regions, who no one would ever hear of for a long time. There were rumors, however, that Xavier had fathered a child. It was also rumored that Xavier's Pokemon would wait for this child, and when the time came, a user of the mystical Aura would return! This rumor, if merely mentioned, though, warranted at least two months Rocket Prison. But the people desperately hoped the rumor was true, though. Most of the towns were running out of Technical Machines, and they're current supply of Pokemon was ever draining, as opposed to the Rocket's supply of Pokemon, who were steadily increasing. Several years passed under Giovanni's rule, and when it had became evident that Team Rocket had all the Technical Machines and Pokemon they could ever need, he stopped this demand. However, he still demanded that he be respected, and Giovanni had been put into many a history book as a hero.It was customary that at the age of ten, a child would receive a Pokemon, as a sort-of right of passage. His residence was in a small town called Pallet Town, which was a very ignored town. It wasn't even on the new maps that Giovanni had made for Kanto. They're existence wasn't known to many, and as a result they remained virtually unaffected by Giovanni's rule. As a town, they didn't even have a Gym Leader to rule them. They were a free town, so to speak.
So, it was on this day, that Chase, who had now officially turned ten, would receive his first Pokemon. He get out from his bed, and got dressed. Chase was a sandy-haired boy that was somewhat small for his age. His face was was fair, and it gave him the look of someone capable of being very nice, under any circumstances. He went to his mother's room, and he walked in.
"Hey, mom! Today's the day I get my Pokemon!". His mother had very beach blond hair, and her face was also very fair, like her son's. Somewhat sleepy, she acknowledged him by saying,
"That's nice honey".
He thought it best to leave her sleeping, so he didn't press the point any farther. He headed out of his house. As always, he was greeted by the familiar sight of the beautiful pine trees that surrounded the entire town. He headed over to he lab located a few feet from his own house. While doing so, he paused, though, because he could have sworn he felt something move near him. He looked around for tall grass, if a Pokemon might be near, but there was none in the town. Feeling slightly odd now, he headed on to the Professor's Lab. He knocked on the door, and shouted,
"Professor Gary! Professor Gary, I'm here for my Pokemon!". He heard a crash through the other side of the door, and in a few seconds, he was greeted by the kind, withered face of Professor Gary, grandson of the wise Professor Oak. He looked very kindly on Chase, and he said to him,
"Hello, my boy. So you've come, have you? Well, let's not dillydally. Come in, come in!". Chase followed Professor Gary inside his lab. There were many scientists here studying various things; One scientist was studying an egg, while another one seemed to be testing a new kind of Poke Ball. Professor Gary led Chase to the other side of the lab, where he saw three Poke Balls sitting on a table.
"Pick one, and let fate decide your partner!", Professor Gary told Chase. Chase paused for a moment, and he was about to let fate decide which Pokemon would be his partner for life, as all Pokemon are. But then, he stopped. He could see which Pokemon were in the Poke Balls! It was very odd, and he hesitated.
"What's the matter, my boy?", Professor Gary asked Chase.
"Nothing, sir.", answered Chase.
"I was just thinking about which one to pick". Now, he had the strange feeling the Pokemon on the right (a Squirtle), should be his choice. He had no idea why, but his feelings told him to pick Squirtle. So, picked up the Poke Ball to his right, and he released the Pokemon from the Poke Ball. It was a Squirtle, as he had predicted. It was a small Pokemon that resembled a turtle. It had a very long tail, besides the fact of being a turtle.
"Well done, my boy!", Professor Gary congratulated Chase.
"You've picked Squirtle, the Tiny Turtle Pokemon!". Then, Professor Gary gave Chase a long lecture about Pokemon, and some tips about how to raise one. Chase thanked the Professor, and he left with his new Pokemon.
He was outside now, his Squirtle in tow, when he saw it. Standing by the exit of Pallet Town was a tall, jackal-like Pokemon, standing upright like a human. On it's wrists, two white spikes were seen, as was a spike on it's chest. Chase saw it for a moment, but when he blinked his eyes, it was gone.
"Okay, this is rather strange", Chase said out loud, though to himself, as if it were meant for him only. With his new Pokemon following behind him, he returned to his house.
His mother had made him some toast for breakfast, which he ate very happily; It was covered with Cinnamon, a rare treat around Pallet Town that Chase loved.
"It makes me somewhat sad", his mother said to him.
"My baby's going to leave for his Pokemon Journey. Promise me, Chase, that you'll return every now and then". Chase looked at his mother sincerely, and said,
"I promise. I'll come back when I can". He finished his breakfast, and hugged his mother in a deep embrace. Then, he exited the house.
He walked all the way to the exit of Pallet Town, where he was greeted by the cold look of the guard there.
"Do you have any Pokemon?", the guard asked Chase. Chase, instead of answering the guard, summoned his Pokemon from it's capsule. Squirtle gave a delightful cry upon being released.
"...Fine. You may pass!", the guard announced very officially, and he opened the gate for Chase. Chase thanked the guard, and he took off onto route 1. It was the start of his Pokemon journey!
