Can i use premier ball and then fail the search? For example, i want to drop an uxie, and i have premier ball in hand, and garchomp c lv X in discard pile, can i use premier ball and dont search for any lv x?
...That's a good question. There's no straightforward answer on the Compendium, but I view it like this.
Since the contents of your discard pile are technically public knowledge, you need to use Premier Ball to search for the Garchomp C LV.X.
Although, don't take my answer for granted; I'd like another professor to add to this.
Edit: Oh wait, you CAN fail-search your deck...on the condition that you announce you're going to search your deck and not your discard.

You are correct DNA. Discard pile is public knowledge and so a correct target must be chosen since one exists. Because you have to choose which you will search before searching, you could opt to search your deck and then fail the search since the deck contents are not known or rememebered.~Mark
