I just realised today, and I don't wanna be negative because pokemon is just ze best, but its been going for how long now? Like 6/7/8 years? There's already 493 pokemon and a large amount of video games and such. But, how can the creators keep this going? Give it 10 years and there'd be 1000 pokemon which is a bit too much for the average player to handle. So what can nintendo an co. do?

If they stop creating new pokemon, people could lose interest, and if they keep going, the whole thing could become a massive incomprehendable monster!!

Are they stuck in a trap!?? Noooo!!!

Who cares? I thought 250 was a lot back in the days. Now we're at 493 and I'm still up for a LOT more.

but then what? thinking about it yugioh must have over1000 monsters and its still going strong so maybe pokemon could keep going!

Hmm, I'm not entirely convinced it would die out due to boredom, because when old players leave there are always newer players to take its place.

A bit like Chess. The rules have not changed, and it has remained the same for god knows how long, and yet it still manages to be one of the most widely played games in the world. If this works for a board game, I see no reason why it shouldn't work for Pokemon.

Pokémon has celebrated its 10th anniversary already. ;)

I have faith in its ability to keep going. Like Lou Cypher said-- Back in the day, Gold and Silver threw me for a loop. 250 was just too many.

I think it worked out just fine. ;) Some of the designs are doozies, but I think the decent ones outweigh them. I don't think it'll ever die down.

Think about, there aren't just 500 animals, and Pokemon generally are related to animals. I remember when G/S/C came out I was ecstatic, the more the marrier!

As long as they stop making silly rodents like Bibarel that is.

Also Monkeyking, that is one of the coolest Trainer Cards I've ever seen.

...pokemon is currently on year 12....

and I've memorized all of the pokemon, keep 'em coming Pokemon USA!!!!

If Pokemon dies soon, which I will bet on 5th gen being the last, 6th if they pull it. Bet, Pokemon has, like, one of the largest replay values of all games, so why wouldn't they go back and recreate the games on DS, like they did with Firered, Leafgreen. Or, if this, and this is a HUGE, if, Pokemon gets an Online game (like World of Warcraft) they would be no need for new games. A few years ago, I actually started coming up with ideas for an Online Poke game on my IMac (call me a nerd). It involved paying for Poke Centers' services and overall more complicated money matters. And each Gym went up 10-11 levels, and the Elite Four were all Lv. 100s.

There is no way in heck the Pokemon will end anytime soon. If it did Nintendo would be a HUGE loss in sales not counting the biggest seller Mario but if Pokemon goes then they will loose billions. That is with a "B" They are in 2nd and if it were gone then Zelda would be back in 2nd. Pokemon has made big sales worldwide and if it ended next year they would not have enough for what they do already. If it were not for Pokemon I don't think the Game cube or Wii would have been made.:)

Pokémon is currently the fastest-selling video game franchise ever. There's no way it's going to stop any time in the near future.

By the way, Pokémon has already been losing people since Generation 2. Absolutely everyone I knew in high school had stopped shortly after GSC came out, and Generations 3 and 4, when people hear about them, are unanimously met with the response of, "There's too many and I can't keep up" or something to that extent. This has occurred up to college. Of course, I have no trouble keeping up, and if you dedicate yourself as much as you would any other video game, you can keep up just fine. You can get by well enough with limited knowledge. (Nobody really seems to understand how I could have memorized all 493 Pokémon and their attributes. When I tell strangers I have no trouble with this, they see me as some sort of Einsteinian genius.)

Yu-Gi-Oh! indeed probably has monsters whose quantity has reached the four-digit mark long ago. Digimon has also had an enormous amount, growing at a rate faster than Pokémon and still growing. (They've probably exceeded 1,000 too.)

The point in Yugioh, however, is that those monsters don't constantly come back with different effects. Just look at how many Pikachu's are printed. Where a Yugioh player would refer to "Dark Magician", "Dark Magician Girl", "Dark Sage", "Dark Magician of Chaos", etc etc, we refer to "Pikachu Base", "Pikachu Jungle", "Pikachu MT" etc etc.

Same for Digimon, the point there isn't to catch them all either.

And thats why you can't compare the amount of monsters in Yugioh and Digimon to those in Pokemon.

True point LC, You can not compare pokemon to yu-gi-oh and digimon because they don't remake stuff like Pokemon does.

Billions of organisms on the planet = billions of Pokemon.

It may get boring to some people, but new people are always drawn in, and competitive battling is the most popular it's been ever. The TCG will never die, as there are always more Pokemon to be made, and people are attracted to that.

dmaster out.

whole-heartedly agrees!!!

The TCG is burning strong and I don't see it going out anytime soon. I agree with what D master said, if they want to take Pokemon to the next level and make it more life like, there going to need more. The just have to keep putting out creative ones, not stinkers like a rock with arms (sorry, never liked that idea)

Ever since D/P started the TCG has been booming big time. The first year it pull 50 million+ in sales. Up from only 4 million+ in sales. The show has higher ratings than ever before probably since it started back in 1998 and it sold 1 million copies of D/P in 5 days. Does that tell you how well it is doing? I hope so. There is no way it will be done anytime soon with these tallies. This will be around for a very long time with the loot it is being made.:)

Generation 5 will... I will not be looking forward to it if is given the "OK". Diamond Pearl just proves they've lost true creativity when it comes to making their Pokemon. Rather than look like "Pokemon" a lot of them just look like colorful creations.
