I made a list like this for myself out of curiosity to see if there were any general trends as to which Pokemon never appear as 1 of their types. I've seen other people talk about Pokemon which have never had 1 of their types represented in the TCG, so I figured I'd share this.

    Some ground rules:
    • Tag Teams count (i.e. Grass Buzzwole and Colorless Legendary Birds).
    • Dual-type cards count, so long as the dual-types in that set are based on the Pokemon's actual types.
    • Crystal Pokemon do not count as Colorless.
    • Jumbo cards do not count.
    • Forms are counted as 1 Pokemon unless the TCG gives the forms different names.
    • For instance, even though Zygarde 10% Forme has never had a Dragon-type card, it is excluded from this list because all Zygarde forms are just considered "Zygarde." Another example would be Zen Mode Darmanitan, which has never appeared as a Fire-type but both forms are called "Darmanitan."
    • Conversely, even though Necrozma and Dawn Wings Necrozma cards are always Psychic, Necrozma's forms are effectively 4 individual species as far as the TCG is concerned, and therefore Dusk Mane and Ultra Necrozma are included among the missing Psychics. Similar examples include Mega Evolutions and Alola Forms.
    • Forms which have never had a card at all are marked with an asterisk.

I do have a far more detailed list that breaks it down further (such as more forms, Poison-types which never got Grass cards, Dragons which never got Colorless cards, Pokemon whose 2 types are 1 type in the TCG but always have the same Weakness/Resistance, oddities like Seel being treated as an Ice-type several times, and other minutiae), but the trimmed version is less of an eyesore. Anyway, let me know if I made a mistake somewhere.

Only things I'm seeing are Steelix and Mega Steelix both got dual-typed Fighting/Metal cards in Steam Siege, and Vileplume delta species was Psychic/Metal (but this was before the Poison type change in Gen 4 so it's understandably listed here and splitting hairs on my part).

Oops. Had it marked as both in my database for some reason, but you're right!

  5. I had something like this posted a while ago, I don't know what happened to it. I however didn't count Owner's Pokemon (like Team Magma's Aggron) tag team Pokemon or other special Pokemon like Diancie Prism, but that's just me.

So Unified Minds (or possibly Hidden Fates, as I suspect some cards got pushed into that) is giving us several firsts:

    -Water Wimpod
    -Water Golisopod
    -Fighting Steelix
    -Darkness Mega Sableye (debut)
    -Dragon Noibat
    -Dragon Naganadel
    -Colorless Articuno
    -Colorless Zapdos
    -Colorless Moltres

The reasons are mostly understandable. Grass, Water, Psychic, Fighting and Colorless are the more bloated types of the card game either due to excess of Pokemon from the main type in the video games or having to combine 2 or more video games into one TCG type. As an example there are plenty of pure Water or Ice-type Pokemon that are already hurting for TCG representation due to Pokemon selection choices, so they're not going to go out of their way to take something like Volcanion, which also represents a far less plentiful typing, and make it Water unless it's a gimmick (like being dual-typed) or some whimsical one-off.

If you look at the most neglected Pokemon in terms of printing, very few of them are Fire, Lightning, Darkness, Metal, Fairy or Dragon, because those are 1:1 video game matches and even in the video games there aren't as many of them. And if you happen to be a Pokemon that has two of these types your value to PCL shoots up exponentially. See also: the frequent appearances for the Magnemite line, Houndour line, Reshiram and Zekrom, etc.
