1. What is the purpose of this card? Does it bring anything special to the table?
I remember reading quite a fair amount of posts where people recalled themselves and others in the community bashing on this card when it was first released. With the advent of
Zekrom and now
Zekrom EX, this card has earned it's spot as one of the four main pillars of an extremely competitive deck called
ZPST (
Zekrom Pachirisu Shaymin Tornadus).
Pachirisu's power, Self-Generation, is actually quite simple - it's power allows you to attach two cards from your hand to Pachirisu when you play the card to your bench, giving your field more energy to play with. This makes a powerful combination when coupled with
Shaymin, who allows you to move the energies on your field!
2. What kind of combos or decks would this card do well with?
As mentioned above, this card is one of the pillars that makes ZPST thrive. Dropping a Pachirisu and a Shaymin allows you to get 3 Energies onto your active attacking pokemon, meaning you can use
Zekrom's Bolt Strike and
Zekrom EX's Strong Volt on the first turn. (In the case of Zekrom EX, the third energy would be a
Double Colorless Energy card.)
Pachirisu does not work on it's own. It needs Shaymin by it's side to create explosive results. As such, not too many decks that can be named highly competitive use Pachirisu, but he still finds his way into casual decks from time to time.
3. Final Thoughts
Pachirisu's final score is interesting. One one hand, it was one of the pillars of an amazingly strong deck that will definitely be seeing play in the upcoming States and Regional tournaments. On the other hand, this card will not see much play in other decks due to it's niche.
Regardless, Pachirisu is a very strong card, and it is also
incredibly expensive right now!
Card Score: 7/10
Card Art: 6/10 (Well, I don't really like Pachirisu, but he's looking mighty cute in this art~)
