From what I know Magic the gathering has the same rating system as us and they are feeling our pain, but they seem to putting in place a new system... could this be similar to the changes pokemon has in mind???

I can't say I 100% understood everything he said but it looks like a good system. Encouraging people to play more and to not drop from events is totally a great idea in my eyes. It sees like something I would need to get use to but I'm sure I'd like it after I know more about it and get more "comfortable" with the idea.
I really like the system makes me wish we had more Pokemon games in my area if they do it like that

Magic relies heavily on pro points or whatever they are. and they aren't reset every year, thus giving top tiered players almost auto invites every year to worlds. Also doesn't hurt these top tiered players for losing 1 match to a "rookie". They aren't punished as much as we are in pokemon.
My local PTO said there will be a change next year.
