Yes, it evolves into Aerodactyl, Kabuto, and Omanyte. You can also put Root and Claw fossil on the bench.
Fossils say "Play Root/Claw/Mysterious Fossil as if it was a Basic Pokemon." So it IS allowed.
I think the question arises from the text saying that the fossils can't retreat. That's all it does - you can't retreat by discarding energy. They still can be on the Bench, though, and they can be Warp Pointed/Switched/Warp energy/etc.
But can you retreat a pokemon for Claw or Root or Mysterious fossil????
Yes. But the fossils can't retreat normally.
Fossils cannot retreat, but they can be switched out by cards like Warp point and Switch. That's what Bass means.
Fossils have no retreat cost, no attacks, no weakness and no resistance. How can something retreat without a retreat cost? It cant. If you want to get rid of the active fossil then either use a card which switches it out, or discard it.
