Maximum word count?

What is the maximum word/character count I can have in an article?

Currently, I have an article with 25515 characters, and 4412 words. Does this exceed maximum post size? If so, is there anything I can do to increase the volume of characters a post can hold?

I'm pretty sure there is no maximum post size for any post, so you should be safe regardless of the length of the article.
...A super mod can probably confirm that for me, though.

There is a maximum size because my old Hierarchy Thread post got cut off from having too much. I would need to dig for the number.

dmaster out.

That should be fine. I posted an RMT a few months ago and had to break it up in two posts. The first post had 6,370 words, though I would assume it is based on characters. Safe to say your article will fit.

The maximum amount of characters a post can have is 65,535. This is due to a restriction variable type Text has in SQL.[/technical reasoning]

Have you personally confirmed this? Last I checked, character limit in a post was somewhere around 12,000. It theoretically should have no limit (or 65,535).

I checked the ACP and it says no limit, however, I know SQL won't accept more than 65,535 characters for that variable type.

If you're worried about going over the limit it's probably best to post an attachment and add a few comments. That way, the post won't take a huge amount of space, and you can still show all the stuff you want to, and more.

Who do you think set the limit to zero, de?

I needed this for my story chapters, but apparently there's a bug in it.

Well, I have that many words, but my post is no where near completion. At this rate, my article will have around 200,000 characters, or more, with about half as many words. Any suggestions on what to do? Should I just make it one post, and comment with the other posts? I feel that if I do that, another person's comment could interrupt the posts.

Find a good spot to end one post then wait a few hours to post the next section. You might also want to put (Please wait to reply in the title).

Actually, I have a question. Would it be possible for me to post multiple threads, and then a mod would just merge all of the threads together into one, right after I post them? That way, people could get the full article without having to wait?

While I'm unsure about merging the threads due to thread size, you could post the thread and then make another post with the second part of your article.

Wait. Another question. If my article is so big that it requires multiple posts(I'm estimating it at 3 posts), won't the posts merge, I get warned for double posting, but still be to big for double posting?

Its fine if it is large posts. If you wait at least a couple hours it shouldn't merge. Its more so you don't type 3 replies that are one sentence each.

Right. I just have a feeling that if I post the first one and ask people to wait to post, there will always be those 2-3 people who will post anyways, and make some stupid comment, and it will ruin the fluidity of my article. I just wish there was a way I could post it all at once, with no penalties or anything. When you see the article, you will understand why.

If need be, you could post the first post of the article, and then I can make some filler post. Then, you post the second part of the article and I can delete my filler post. I could also delete any other posts if necessary.

That would be perfect. I'll post one section, you post, I post second section, you post, I post third section, you delete previous posts. That seems to be the most efficient to get it all together.

All of you guys, my article that I was talking about is up. Its called State of States: An article on the upcoming meta. I put some time and effort into it, and would appreciate your comments.

Does it really take a few hours? It seems like only about 30 minutes between double split posts to me. But I've never checked precisely.
