Max Elixir

I think I know the answer, but I don't want to get caught off-guard in a tournament. Can I play Max Elixir, see what energy(s) is revealed, THEN choose what benched Pokemon to attach them to? Or do I have to declare it before I play Max Elixir?

Max Elixir says to look at your deck first, so you can choose the Pokemon after you look.
