Ruling magnetons poke power

ok my magnetons poke power is basically and energy retrieval. discard one card in my hand for 2 energy in my discard pile.

at the bottom it says (you may not return the card you first discarded in this way)

now i take that to mean (if there is only one energy in the discard pile) that you cant discard an energy then pick up that same one and the another one.

so the way i see it is if you did discard an energy that the next turn you can retrieve that energy.


my friend thinks that no matter what card i discard energy or not i cant retrieve it again using that power full stop.

i just assumed they added that to stop me putting one energy down to take 2 because that basically is getting free energy.

so does anybody know which on. because we cant decide and the pokepower is not too clear.

because the first card i discard ion this way is tecnically only the first time i use it. the second time i use it the card i discarded is the second card i discarded and the power only mentions not retrieving the card i first discarded

You just can't return the card that turn with the Poke-Power. It states that so if you have only one energy in your discard pile, you can't discaard an energy and get that card back with the Poke-Power. If you discarded an energy with it in a prior turn, you are able to take it back this turn.~Mark

How it works is exactly like you said. If you have at least 1 Energy in your discard pile, do this.

1) Announce the use of Magneton's Poke-Power. Discard 1 card from your hand.
2) Search your discard pile for 2 Energy cards, so long as neither is the card you just discarded.
3) Put the 2 cards chosen into your hand.

With a future use of the Power, you can do the exact same thing. You just cannot recall a card you just discarded right then. If you discarded an Energy card on an earlier turn to activate the Power, you can take back that Energy with a future use of the Power.
