Hi everyone, first post here. I'm trying to get a good deck for tournaments. I already have a nice Vespiquen deck which runs really good without Shaymins (don't have any), but I'd like to have another one, and I'm specially keen on Mega Hounds. Here is the first version of the one I have tried to build:

Pokemon (17)
  • 3 Houndoom EX
  • 3 M-Houndoom EX
  • 3 Zubat
  • 3 Golbat
  • 3 Crobat
  • 1 Remoraid
  • 1 Octillery
Trainers/Supporters/Stadiums (33)
  • 2 Level Ball
  • 2 Battle Compressor
  • 2 Switch
  • 3 VS Seeker
  • 3 Ultra Ball
  • 4 Trainers' Mail
  • 1 Sacred Ash
  • 3 Professor Sycamore
  • 2 Blacksmith
  • 2 Shauna
  • 1 AZ
  • 2 Giovanni's Scheme
  • 1 Lysandre
  • 3 Houndoom Spirit Link
  • 2 Silent Lab
Energy (10)
  • 4 Burning Energy
  • 6 Fire Energy
Strategy:

Sorry if there's any bad translation, I play the spanish version of the game and some cards have different names.

How would you improve my deck to make it a little more solid? (Taking into account I don't have any shaymins and will be almost impossible getting them)

A problem I'm seeing with your list is that it doesn't seem to have enough draw power. In your particular build Hoopa isn't doing as much because you don't have Shaymin EX. It'll just end up being a bench sitter that your opponent may Lysandre to get 2 prizes. I'd recommend dropping the Hoopa EX and a Level Ball to make room for a 1-1 Octillerry. It isn't quite as good as Shaymin EX, but it will help you drawing cards throughout the game.

I haven't used Houndoom with Bats, but in theory I really don't think you need as many bats in the deck as you are running. All you need is 10-20 damage on an EX and it will be knocked out except for a select few. For this reason I'm going to suggest dropping a Zubat and a Golbat in favor of 1 Shauna for draw support and 1 Giovanni's Scheme which can either help you draw or dish out the additional damage for a KO.

I think it'd be helpful for your deck to run 2 copies of Silent Lab because it will stop opposing Shaymin EX, anything with Safeguard that is a Basic Pokemon, and other random abilities. I think getting rid of the two Super Scoop Up would be the best choice because it relies on a coin flip to work.

-1 Hoopa EX
-1 Level Ball
-1 Zubat
-1 Golbat
-2 Super Scoop Up

+1 /+1 Octillery Breakthrough
+1 Shauna
+1 Giovanni's Scheme
+2 Silent Lab

Hi King Arceus, thanks for your help.

I'll try to get that octillery, should be a lot cheaper and a good support pokemon. I like too the idea of Giovanni as it can help me with both damage and drawing.

A problem I see with silent lab is that my bats won't work as their ability will be cancelled too. Gonna try the rest of the ideas when I have some time (got exams these days).

You say you haven't used houndoom with bats. How do you use yours?

Silent Lab only blocks abilities of Basic Pokemon so it won't bother Golbat or Crobat. It isn't going to kill Zubat to have to pay 1 Energy to retreat compared to the board control it gives you.

I use mine as a very aggressive and quick deck with cards like Shaymin EX, 4 Sycamore. I don't focus on late game because I feel the best way to play it is going all out. My full list is in the Subscriber's Hideout.

Wow didn't realize that! Cool! Thanks a lot :)

Btw should I trade a Houndoom EX for a Silent Lab and and Octillery? Is that a fair trade?

I wouldn't. Silent Lab is only an uncommon and is going for around $1 on ebay. Octillery is going for a little over $1. Houndoom EX is going for around $9. You might be able to trade other cards for them at your local league.
