Ruling Lying during searches

Actually, if you think about the wording, it wouldn't be considered cheating AT ALL, even if you consider lying as cheating. It tells you to CHOOSE something, right? That means you have a choice to pick what you want to take and what not to take. So, it would follow that you should be allowed to choose to take NOTHING. It would be lying to say "I'm gonna use Holon Mentor to look for the Holon Castform I just shuffled into my deck lulz," but then not take it, even though it's obviously in your deck and you stated that you would take it. That would be lying (ie not doing what you said you would do) but still not cheating (ie not breaking the rules of the game). Still, neither I nor anyone else here can tell you how to play the game, so if you consider it cheating/lying/immoral/stupid, by all means don't do it while I use an Energy Search to make sure my 2 Lv. X's are somewhere in my deck ;)
