Japanese Tournament Season

Hello everyone I have a question about Japans system. It is to my understanding that the only way for the Japanese to qualify for worlds is through the battle carnivals or top 4 worlds. So what do they do in the season? Do they still play tournaments and if so what do they count for?

Wow, didn't mean to post that. Ok. Was going to say that there might be travel stipends or something to go to Qualifiers.

Let's have a mass migration to Tokyo.

I've heard so many wacky things about Japan's play system and meta over the years, I try to just not think about it now. It just hurts.
