Ruling Infernape - Discard Optional?

I'm confused with the SF Infernape...

It's second attack is - FFCC Spreading Fire 80
"Discard 2 {R} Energy attached to Infernape and this attack does 20 damage to each of your opponent's Benched Pokemon"

In this attack, do you have the 2 options - "just" 80 to the active (with no discard) or do 80 to the active, discard 2 {R} energies and now do 20 to each benched?

Or... do you HAVE to discard the 2 {R} Energies from Infernape in order to use this attack?

normally if the attack provides 2 options it would have "you may" written into the text. this one doesn't. i looked at it again from the scan and it does seem confusing. however i think that it does 80 to the active and 20 to each of your opponents bench after you have discarded the 2 fire energy. otherwise if you can't discard the energy it won't do anything at all. maybe its just a bad translation that will receive errata or i am an idiot. not sure yet :)

Unless the translation is incorrect, the discard is mandatory.

The attack tells you to discard. You do not have a choice if you want to discard. Unless you can find something in the translation that tells you to decide, you are forced to discard when using that attack.

Infernape - Discard Is Not Optional

I see, thank you for the clarification...

Upon re-reading, I do see that it TELLS you to discard --- I'll use this knowledge for other situations like this, too.
