Ruling Ho-oh ex and blend energies

I'm wondering if blend energies (technically special energy cards) can be used to feed Ho-oh EX's (DE) energy cost for Rainbow Burn since the energy only becomes one type once it is attached to a pokemon. Can anyone confirm or disprove this? Thank you.

The key words there are "basic Energy cards." Blend Energies do not count as Basic Energy cards. They are Special Energy cards (again printed right on them).
