Help Me Decide!

Hi everyone! This is my first post on any Pokémon TCG forum! I've recently decided to get back into the TCG, and try to play competitively. The problem is... last time I played Pokemon, my decks strategy was to stall with base set Mewtwo or to force a basics war with Aerodactyl, Hitmonchan and Electabuzz. Safe to say it has been a while.

Anywho... I've been lurking around forums and have decided that a Zekeels deck is straightforward enough, so I may try that for Mississippi's upcoming battle roads. But other things have caught my attention. I REALLY like that Chandelure card that lets you place 30 damage however you like. The idea of damage in multiples of 30 that is spammable each turn before you attack seems powerful to me. If i am wrong or missing something please let me know. also if you have a deck list please show me.

So my actual question... Considering that I haven't played competitively since Haymaker was the go-to deck, should I try the rogue route with the chandelure, or stick with the reliable and overused Zekeels.

If there are any other ideas or meta decks that are good for getting back into the game for the BW-on format... please feel free to let me know!

The main reason Chandelure isn't very good is because it is knocked out by Darkrai in one attack. Zekeels is probably a good deck to play, especially for a begginer (Well, sorta). If you would like a Zekeels list, PM me.

That makes sense. Well obviously it would be benched... but I'd assume the danger of the 3-4 Catchers that most decks run.

Well, Chandelure has to be Active in order for it to work. Unless you can hit a Switch every turn (which you're only limited to four of), there will be times where Chandelure will remain Active. Plus, even if you do hit the Switch, like you said, Catcher is an issue.

Ah! That is something that I should have not overlooked. Thanks for the notice.

Welcome! Check out the Zekrom starter deck from Next Destinies and you get two copies of Zekrom, Energy, yadda yadda yadda, if you're not allowed to buy single cards or just can't. If not, buy singles. You save money. A LOT of money. It's also relatively cheap, so ZekEels is actually a very good choice for someone getting back into the game. :] PM me if you need any help, or any mod for that matter.

I'd just like to point out that I've seen a certain deck being played that utilizes Darkrai EX+Chandelure+Sableye and I have to honestly say, it's pretty good when you think about how it works. Darkrai EX+Chandelure is very reminiscent of the Darkrai/Chandelure/Mew/Accelgor deck in that you can attach a Dark Energy to Chandelure and retreat for free (opens up a lot of possibilities with going to another Chandelure and then using Switch to go to a Darkrai for an attack). Now obviously, it is a tad slow because you have a huge Stage 2 line, but once it gets working, it's placing a lot of damage on the field and can overwhelm support Pokemon like Altaria, Swablu, Eelektrik, Tynamo, Deino, and the like. Just a little idea with Chandelure that could end up as a pretty underplayed rogue.

Barring that, I do recommend just a pretty simple Eels deck because it is one of the easiest decks to start out and they have Theme Decks that include Zekrom like Serperior mentioned and also one that I believe has a 4-2 Eelektrik line (has the 30 HP Tynamos IIRC so that might not be the best of Theme Decks to buy as the 40 HP ones are vastly superior in the upcoming Format where Darkrai is still a thing). I hope you enjoy getting back in the game! :)

dmaster out.
