Pokemon GTS... In Johto?

I was scrolling through Bulbapedia today. Then I stumbled across this.

Was this an early version of the GTS in Sinnoh?

NOTE: This function was in Pokemon Cyrstal in Japan ONLY.

No, if you read it carfully, you'd read it says it was used to hook up Japanese Crystal to cell phones in Japan. It says nothing about the GTS...

No I never said it WAS THE GTS. I just said was it a prototype for it.

Yes, but it was never released in the US...but the GTS doesn't invovle cell phones...

True, but the cell phone had wireless contectivity... and plus you could get Pokemon News....

Changes from the Japanese version of Crystal:

Goldenrod City's Pokémon Center was replaced by a much larger building, the aforementioned Pokémon Communication Center.

Players could leave a Pokémon and a request the Pokémon species that it be traded for at the Pokémon Communication Center's Trade Corner. A player could also view Pokémon up for trade from other players, and trade with them. This feature was later used for the Global Trade Station of the Diamond and Pearl versions.

So I conclude that the Pokemon Communication Center's Trade Corner is more or less of a GTS prototype.

That would be cool to be able to trade Pokemon on such an old Pokemon game. You could get Celebi easier that way since it isn't able to be obtained in any of the Johto series games.
