Not sure if anyone has posted this yet, but I think this game deserves some discussion!
What do you think of the GS series?
Which is your favorite?
Anyone here excited for this release?
I know I am, I just hope it's not a huge disappointment.

OMG lol i absolutely cannot stand it how amazing this announcement was. I love the GS sereies almost as much as pokemon. Love the first one.

For me this was Day 1 of me playing Dark Dawn.

[21:21] <&Blackwing> dear diary
[21:21] <&Blackwing> the power of moving paper targets is no match for the power of FIYAH
[21:21] <&Blackwing> that is all

I'm sure it'll escalate the more I play. It doesn't quite have the feel of GS1, but it's still distinctly a Golden Sun game. A lot of the sound effects are retained, as is the victory fanfare - oh yeah, and the Vale town music, which I like.

The entire series was pretty awesome on the GBA alone. The mistake was not coming out with Dark Dawn sooner... OMG, it seems like ages since I last played the GS games. This is tops on my Christmas list this year (sadly, that might be the only game I get this year with funds so tight, but I can wait, even if I don't).

@HeroOfSinnoh: no he doooooooooesn't~ =D
In fact, you don't have to go very far in the story to find out that Alex is back and ready to kill =o

I completed Dark Dawn earlier today (it would have been sooner if I could stay up all night playing it, like the first two games), and I've gotta say it was awesome, despite a few frustrating drawbacks.

The music keeps up with the high standards of the first two games, though there aren't many catchy / amazing tracks like there were in the first two games. The battles and graphics are amazing, and surpass the first two games by miles. I was worried the absence of the art style in the first two games I'd grown to love would drag this game down, but they really made the game's own style shine through.

Anything below this point could be a spoiler, so don't read anything below this if you don't want anything spoiled.

I found the ability to do some storyline missions out of order very convenient. Because I like to roam a lot and examine every possible thing before moving on to where they want me to go next, I often took on harder parts of the story before doing the easier parts that come before them, putting me at a level advantage most of the time. For example, going through Port Rago and setting everything up for later when Briggs arrives (without even knowing he'd do so), and then going to Kolima and beating Sludge before even stepping foot into Belinsk (or whatever that beast town is) really made the game more fun. I can recall a few times where I did a part of the storyline far ahead of when I was supposed to.

Leveling up is far easier in this game, thankfully. Experience point output is amazing, and there were plenty of places to level grind and get ahead 10+ levels from where I should have been. Did anyone else find the part where you're fighting Tua Warriors at the Apollo Sanctum really odd? They gave out so much experience and dropped a Water of Life after every battle.

The biggest flaw of this game is definitely the fact you can't go back and collect Djinn and Tablets past certain points. I've got to start a whole new game and sit there reading a guide just to make sure I get them all, then make sure I get all the same items and extras I got the first time through, then make sure I level up and go through the story the same way... It's a nightmare. They could have easily let you access the earlier parts of the map after you complete the game. And when you continue from a completed game, it shouldn't still be under the effects of the Eclipse. That's just ridiculous.

End of spoilers.

Anyway, I guess I've gotta play through the game again, this time with a guide by my side. This game would be pefect if they'd just let you go back and get what you missed, but I guess that's asking too much. :/

Speaking of which, I'm actually going through GSDD with help from a friend who is making sure I don't miss the stuff at the points of no return.

So far I am at the second one, and I don't know if there's more. I got 3 tablets and a total of 21 Djinn (5/7/5/4 to be exact), and before I'm about to go and try to cross that cloud passage in Passaj, do you know if I'm missing anything up to this point?

edit: I missed Ether ffffffffffffff---

This is the guide I'm using to make sure I didn't miss anything, though you've most likely seen it already / are already using it. xD

Work and art have been getting in the way of me getting through my second playthrough quickly, though right now I'm just level grinding so I can be even further ahead level-wise than I was my first time through. The most annoying aspect is going to be getting all of the hidden items. At every single location possible, the very first thing I did was check every single pot, barrel, box, cabinet, etc. to make sure I got every hidden item possible, so I wouldn't have to go back later. (Too bad I didn't do that for Tablets, I guess.) Now I've gotta do all of that again. Thankfully my luck with item drops in my first file was pretty terrible (except for Antidotes, which I never had to use), so this time can't be any worse.

I'm still playing my first file from time to time, and I tried to take on Dullahan for fun. At level 57, of course I got creamed. I'll just have to level grind to Level 99 against Tua Warriors at the end of the game in my second time through before making my Clear File and facing it.

The points of no return really made a large aspect of this game unenjoyable (though I still love the game). To loosely quote someone from some other forums I was browsing, "I want to play through the game again because I enjoyed it, not because I missed things." In time, hopefully I'll be able to go above and beyond my first file, with all of the best gear and every Djinn and Tablet... It's just gonna take a while.
