Getting Back Into It

Rock Wrecker

I want to be a Pokemon master :-)

Hey guys, some people may remember me I'm the kid who was on all the time last year and knew absolutely nothing about how to actually the TCG. I want to get back into it with my friend Adam but he's never actually played and I was never any good. I still have my old Donphan Dragons deck that miraculously got me 2nd place at Citys or something like that and I figured out a lot of the things I had done wrong with the deck. I want to know if this is still a viable option in the current metagame or if any Donphan variant can work. (or Jumpluff I have 4 Jumpluff even though I never played them... Eh Jumpluff's kinda weak maybe I can get something good for them) Anyways I was just wondering where to start with getting back into the game and what staples I need in my deck and whatnot. Thanks in advance!

Well, first of all, the current format is Black and White-On and the promos released during that time. Next Year's format will be Next Destinies-On.

So that means that Donphan and Jumpluff from HGSS won't be legal.

Oh man I didn't even realize the format had changed I thought Black and White-On was for next year :(
What's the metagame like and what should I look into? :\

TDK, Darkrai/Sableye/Absol (dyeing out), Blastoise/Black Kyurem, and Genesect/Virizion (in August after the new set comes out).

BTW the new rotation is going to be ND-On as of August 28th

What are some decent rogues I should look into? And can someone point towards a thread or subforum where I can learn more about these decks?
Wow so all I've really got is reshiram, zekrom, juniper, and pokemon catcher, this sucks.

Klingklang, Garbodor, Landorus/Tornadus/Mewtwo etc.

Ho-Oh, Garchomp/Altaria, Empoleon (with Kingdra or Eeveelutions), Quad Snorlax, Quad Tornadus (after the rotation it will be much worse), Weavile/Exeggcute, Shaymin/Cofagrigus, Stoutland/Ghetsis, Zebstrika, ...

rogue doesnt have a tier

dont get me started on tier 4

Rogue doesn't mean a totally random crap deck either. :/

I agree. Lugia/Cofagrigus is rogue. But it wins for me all the time. lol. People start off like "that's an odd combination" and then when I "N" them down to one and take 6 prizes in 2 turns it leaves them in awe.

Also, you could always check out the deck list help thread for some skeletons of competitive decks

Thanks you guys I'll look into decks and probably proxy them for now because I don't have the money or desire to buy all the cards to a deck at the moment. I don't know what I should try starting with I'm very interested in the Blastoise/ Keldeo deck and the whole Hynotoxic Laser and Virbank Gym poison everyone thing. What's the strategy of Lugia/ Cofagrigus I'm interested.

Blastoise/Keldeo will get worse after the rotation because Grass types will get seriously played.

Lugia/Cofagrigus is where you set up many Cofagrigus. Then, you use Cofagrigus' "Six Feet Under" Ability on your opponent's already-damaged Pokemon to put them within Lugia's attack's 120 for 3 prizes on an EX. You can earn 6 prizes in 2 turns with this method.

Blastoise/Keldeo/BKEX (BKEX is an essential part of the deck) doesn't actually have a terrible matchup against Grass at all. If you set up a BKEX before Genesect Virizion can take out Blastoise then you should win.

Rogues always fall into different tiers depending on how good they are. Rogue doesn't mean anything about how good a deck is; it refers to how played it is. Its not that a rogue deck can't be high tier; its that if a rogue deck is high tier (like The Truth) then it generally becomes played often and stops being a rogue.
