Froslass Lock — Winning Slowly and Painfully

At the recent Atlanta Regionals, I played against a variety of weird and interesting decks, but one of them left a lasting impression. Froslass / Budew is a deck that I played with a little bit pre-rotation, but I had neglected to consider it in the new format. Frankly, I got very lucky to escape with a win against it at the Regional, as the matchup was quite unfavorable for me. That round got the gears turning, and I began to consider whether that deck could be a real contender in this format. As it turns out, the deck is actually pretty good. It is very slow and grindy to play, but usually does end up winning. [Grim Thoughts]

The matchup spread for this and the singleprizer Okidogi deck is very very similar. Actually, they function somewhat similarly too in terms of deck structure, just with completely different wincons (though they both die painfully to Gardevoir)

I saw this froslass and immediately envisioned a meta where this would dominate, now I just need to build this deck XD

Weirdly enough, i played an offmeta version of this deck (with glaceon ex) before rotation, and found that even tho Gardevoir was not an autowin, it was still a fairly easy match. Although that could be due to it playing the trace kirlias, klefki and fluttermane back then so the deck had more ability pokémon in play to build up damage counters. Now Mew ex Fez ex and Clefairy ex have abilities too, but they are not part of the core of the deck and would not be played in this particular match
