The Compendium said:Q. Can you have Japanese or other foreign cards in your deck and if so, do you have to have an English equivalent of each different foreign card outside your deck?
A. Yes, foreign cards are allowed. However, you must have an English or local-language version of the card, outside the deck, for reference purposes. (Jan 22, 2004 PUI Rules Team; Mar 31, 2005 PUI Rules Team)
This has always confused me. If you're allowed to have JP and other language cards in your deck, but you have to have the English or local language equivalent outside of your deck, why don't you just put the English one in your deck? Couldn't a printout of a scan of the card be good enough? Or would it be because you could fake the card and then print it out?
But if you also have the English or local language equivalent in your deck, wouldn't that count as a reference as well?
