Not even close. Ten damage to itself means nothing, even with the self-weak. He's Metal-type, for one... so even with 1 Metal, 20 to self becomes 10; 2 Metal negates it completely.

With 100 HP and Energy Root, that's 11 turns of them not being able to touch you.

Now toss in some healing. Potion, Oran Berry, Sitrus Berry, Life Herb, anything... don't ever auto-paralyze, and don't ever auto-agility yourself.
