Cynthia's True Strength?

Tobias was a character introduced in the sinnoh league, who ended up winning the entire league using only his Darkrai [which was only defeated by Ash's Sceptile] and Latios, who only appeared for one battle. Based on what was happening with Cynthia and the elite four, where if Cynthia lost she was no longer the champion. Later Cynthia reappears in the best wishes series. Seeing as Cynthia was still the Champion at the time of Best wishes [otherwise she most likely wouldn't have been invited to partake in the exhibition match] are we to assume Cynthia defeated Tobias? If so, how strong is Cynthia?

Well I don't know about Darkrai, but Latios isn't necessarily a threat to Cynthia. She does after all have at least a Garchomp who fights alongside a league champion and that has to count for a lot. By the anime we only know two of her Pokémon anyway, so she could have something that could counter Darkrai, hard as that is to believe admittedly.

And of course we don't know Tobias's other Pokémon either. That's four unknown's on both sides (assuming he doesn't rely to much on Darkrai and Latios as to not have any others).

That assumes Tobias made it that far. I think he still had to defeat the Elite four before dealing the with champion. And as we all know in the anime being a legendary/mythical doesn't mean a Pokémon is virtually unbeatable. Maybe losing to Ash's Sceptile started a huge losing streak for his Darkrai.

Or maybe Cynthia lost, went out and caught herself something really good, like Rayquaza and then reclaimed her title from Tobias right before her (and Dawn's) reappearance in BW.

We'll never really know.

Basically, like Pikachu6319 said, there are a lot of unknown factors, but I would tend to conclude that Tobias lost or would have so if battling Cynthia. As already said, being/having a legendary doesn't mean an assured victory, just look at Ash defeating a Frontier's Articuno and Sceptile defeating Darkrai (even if after intense combat). I'm assuming Tobias did used his Darkrai, being his signature Pokémon and having used it so far and since we're talking about Cynthia - a myth expert - then she would at least know right after looking it that it was a Darkrai, unlike other trainers.
About the fact that she appeared in the BW saga...I don't know if the Champion has to battle agains't the E4 and Champion right after beating the League so that argument is left open too.
