Here is straight from the Compedium:

Q. I have a Dusknoir Lv.X active with 10 HP left. My opponent attacks Dusknoir Lv. X with an attack like "Whirlwind" that does 10 damage and "your opponent switches one of his Active Pokemon with one of his benched Pokemon". So does its "Ectoplasm" Poke-POWER work because Dusknoir Lv.X was Active when it was first attacked, or does it fail because it is KO'd while on the Bench?
A. Dusknoir Lv.X was active when it was attacked, so Ectoplasm may be used. (Dec 4, 2008 PUI Rules Team)

Q. When Ditto with the "Ditto DNA" Poke-BODY is attacked with something that makes it go to the bench, is the damage applied before or after the switch takes place? For example, let's say the attack does enough damage to KO Ditto with his current state of HP, but the switch to a new bench would give him enough HP to remain alive. Is he KO'd before the switch or does he switch first and not get KO'd?
A. All attack effects are done before checking for KO's, so Ditto would get switched to the bench first and then the check for KO takes place after the attack is finished. (Jul 30, 2009 PUI Rules Team)

As you can see, the two answers contradict eachother.
What gives??

The difference is because of the wordings of the two cards. Look at the texts here:

All effects are applied before you check for knockouts, yes. However, Ditto says 'As long as Ditto is your Active Pokemon', and that would go away when Ditto would be benched. However, Dusknoir's Ectoplasm says: 'If Dusknoir...would be Knocked Out by damage from an opponent's attack...' (future tense as opposed to present tense). This means, if the opponent's attack would do enough damage to knock Dusknoir out, (for example, if Machamp used Hurricane Punch, got 2 heads, and Dusknoir had 50 HP left) you can trigger Ectoplasm right there and morph Dusknoir into a Stadium. Dusknoir gets KO'd, you replace from the Bench, and your opponent draws a prize.

They don't really contradict each other; you have to look at the individual cards.
