Community Team

Hello, welcome to a new project we're trying out called the Community Team. It will involve you as a community to build a team based on the playstyle that you as a community pick. When all is done, someone will make the team into a RMT, and then post it in the RMT Forum for all to view and rate. Now, let me explain how this will work.
  • We will put up a poll on what playstyle you want the team to be. After a week, the poll will be closed, and then the official team building will begin.
  • We will pick a Pokemon to build the team around. Members will post a Pokemon and set. After plenty of sets have been posted, we will put up a poll on which Pokemon that members want to build the team around. When posting the set, give an explanation on why it should be picked, along with what it does. Any set that doesn't have an explanation will be ignored.
  • When the poll is over, official team building will start. I will begin by adding a Pokemon and a set, along with an explanation on why it's being added that must be three sentences at least and being competitive (no "lol I'll add pikatchew becuz lol trolling"). The next person will do the same, but they may not remove the Pokemon that have already been added. This will continue until we have six Pokemon.
  • After we have six Pokemon, members are free to propose changes. This means that you can say something like "I suggest we change SDGliscor to Substitute stalling Gliscor because ," or "I suggest we run a more bulky spread on Scizor, like ...". If enough members agree with you, the changes will be made. We will continue this until all members agree that the team looks good.
  • Members will then propose a name for the team. After enough names are suggested, we will put the best ones in a poll to decide on. After that, the team is ready to be made into a RMT.
  • The team will be made into a RMT by all the VG mods.

Now, as most of you know by now, Thundurus and Excadrill have been officially deemed "uber." Good bye, and good riddance. Thundurus and Excadrill were booted out because of the amazing power they posessed, both of them literally killed any form of stall team unless you based have of your team around countering these two. In... I guess "celebration" of the recent banning of these two Pokémon, I am deeming the first team we will build as a community as a "stall" team.

Now I'm not going to tell you what kind of stall team. Hail, Rain, Sand, anything else, this is up to you depending on what Pokémon you guys pick to be on the team. So, without further delay/me talking, please go ahead and start nominating Pokémon and EV Spreads/movesets you would like to be used in the new stall team. Remember, at least 3 sentances of competitive description on why this Pokémon should be used. Also remember this is a COMMUNITY team. We like it when you give us your ideas, but we don't want 1 person to make half of the team. That being said, Have fun!

Hail stall would be really cool to make, but I think the easiest option to go with here would be Rain stall.
Staples of any stall team include hazards. One of the best Pokemon for setting up hazards is Ferrothorn.
If We decide to go with Rain Stall then Ferrothorn is even better. With rain up, Ferro's x4 weakness to Fire is not nearly as much of a threat.

FERROTHORN
ITEM: Leftovers - Best item on any stall team. Give you more HP and lets you stall even longer.
ABILITY: Impish or Relaxed - Depends if we want to run Gyro Ball or not.
EVS: 252 HP / 48 Def / 208 SpD - Nice bulky spread for max stall potential.
MOVESET:
  • Stealth Rocks / Spikes - Either can go here. This will depend on other Pokemon on the team and what they have.
  • Leech Seed - A MUST for a stalling Ferrothorn. Pretty obvious how this helps.
  • Thunder Wave - Another great option that is meant to break up the opponent's consistency.
  • Power Whip / Gyro Ball - Attacking move. Mainly used against Taunt. But Ferro's Stabs can hit hard when used right.
*Another move option is Protect. Great for stalling, but it would be hard to fit it in. What do yo guys think?

Ferrothorn is great int he Rain, so if we decide on that weather, then I highly suggest we add him. He's not the basis of the team, but he is a great asset to stall. I'd like to hear other opinions, and perhaps there is a better Pokemon or a better option for Ferrothorn.
Other than that, this idea is awesome!! :D

I think this is an awesome idea, and I hope it continues. :)

Because stall teams are very dependant on their hazards they lay down, a spinblocker is a must. Said spinblocker must be bulky, because it needs to come in a lot. Jellicent is a very bulky ghost type, and is phenomenal at supporting any team. It is also bulky enough that Starmie can't 2HKO it with Thunderbolt (without Life Orb it does 48% max). As a bonus, it has solid type synergy with Ferrothorn, and the two are solid Pokemon when you need to counter rain teams. When coupled with two solid burning moves, and a self recovery move, Jellicent can last for a long time.

(I like female Jellicents more)
Jellicent
Item: Leftovers - A staple item for any defensive Pokemon.
Ability: Water Absorb - Jellicent really dislikes status, so the ability to come in on Scald, one of the most used moves in the metagame, and not worry about it is a huge boon
EVs: 208 HP/216 Defense/84 Speed - While this is not the standard Jellicent spread, I've been using this spread for about a month, and am loving it. One of the biggest advantages is that this set outspeeds Bulky Politoed, a staple on Rain teams, and can Taunt the frog, stopping it from wrecking your team with Toxic or Hypnosis. It also outspeeds Skarmory, which is a useful advantage to have.
Moves:
Scald
Will-O-Wisp
Recover
Taunt

One of the best moves introduced in Gen.5, Scald's 30% burn chance is impossible to ignore. You can get lucky and burn a Gliscor, making it useless for the rest of the game. A burnt opponent has no hope of breaking through Jellicent without a critical hit or super effective attack. A staple on any defensive Pokemon, Jellicent included. Recover really helps Jellicent act as the wall its supposed to be. Taunt makes Jellicent a fantastic stallbreaker. As said above, this EV spread outspeeds some Politoeds and Skarmory, two Pokemon that rely on supporting moves to help their team out. So what happens if they can't use those moves? They become deadweight. Taunt also assures that Pokemon can't use Jellicent's lack of offensive prowess as a chance to set up. While two burning moves may seem redundant, Will-O-Wisp is for those situations where you really need to burn something, like against Terrakion. Will-O-Wisp burns 75% of the time (as opposed to Scald's 30%), which can make up for the lack of damage it does.

Jellicent can function in all types of weather; though it is somewhat weakened by sun. Jellicent isn't a centerpiece of a team, but its the supporting glue that keeps it together.

Most of the time the choice is between Thunder Wave and Gyro Ball, not Power Whip and Gyro Ball. The reason being is that Thunder Wave slows your enemies, making Gyro Ball nearly useless. So basically what I'm saying is you always have Power Whip, and can choose Thunder Wave or Gyro Ball depending on the needs of you team.

ATM I gtg to bed, but I will post some sets tomorrow!

^SPM3 is right, that is normally the choice.

However SPM3... we would like to get 6 Pokémon in before we start editing the current sets. Just saying. :p

Anyways, I might as well nominate a set here.

29526.gif

Blissey @Leftovers
Trait: Natural Cure -cos the other one is just bad. (lolserenegrace)
Bold nature
252 HP/252 Def/6 SpDef
~Wish
~Protect
~Seismic Toss
~Toxic/Stealth Rock/Thunder Wave

If we want Ferrothorn to run Spikes, it is always an option to have Blissey run Stealth Rock. Thunder Wave is good too to nab the surprise paralyzis on switch-ins like Jirachi. Seismic Toss is Blissey's only way to do any form of damage outside of Calm Mind. Wish is probably the best move you can drop on a Blissey. The new mechanic makes any pokemon that switches into the wish regain half of BLISSEY'S health, not half of their own health. So anything switching in will get 350+ HP back. (Basically, they'll get fully healed provided they survive the switch in.) Protect is so Blissey can heal itself, and rack up Toxic + Sandstorm damage. It also allows Blissey to scout for choiced pokemon.

Well I made Ferro like that because I wouldn't ever use both attacks on a Stall set. T-Wave is pretty important, but I do agree that Power Whip is needed, so we could leave out Guro Ball.

I also like the Blissey set. But we might be able to fit SR on something else.

So do you guys want something bulky like Dnite or Reuniclus? Or are we gonna go with straight stall?
And we also need a Toed set for this team, but that can be decided later.

I preffer to run Sandstorm stall teams but since everyone is votting Rain Dance so I'll add my addition to the team. Though I highly doubt it would make much of a difference.

fronts.png

Gyarados:M-Leftovers
Ability: Intimidate
Nature: Adamant +ATK/-Sp. Atk
EV's: 248 HP/44 ATK/216 Spe
Attacks:
~Dragon Dance
~Waterfall
~Earthquake
~Taunt

I have used this set before in my Sandstorm Stall team and its bulk provided a much needed boost. The reason why it would fit the Rain Stall team well is the fact that it provides some potent Physicall attacks such as Waterfall that gets a strength boost in the rain and may cause flinching and better Taunting then pokemon such a Jellicent who can be out paced. Though the partnering of the two makes for some great coverage.

Basically the set is designed to run in a way that makes it a true potent threat. Dragon Dance is first priority pick to use first to boost the Speed and Attack which will then allow for the perfect time to allow the use of Taunt. After another DD the Speed and Attack are at +2 boost, more then enough to allow some potent damage from Earthquake and even greater damage from a rain and matching type boosted Waterfall. This set holds some great coverage but can be swaped out for a classic DD Gyarados set or a much needed Rest-Talk Gyarados set. Either of these three sets can be used effectivly on a Rain Stall team.

145_zapdos_front_norm.png

Zapdos @ Leftovers
Pressure
Timid Nature
252 Spe/192 HP/64 Def

- Substitute/HP Ice
- Roost
- Thunder
- Toxic

Zapdos is an amazing Toxic spreader. Toxic is obvious, hitting Specially Defensive walls like Blissey and Pory2. Roost is means of instant recovery, which is kind of essential. Thunder hits hard in the Rain, even with no investment. The last slot is up for grabs. Substitute means we can heal/hit/Toxic more, while HP Ice hits Landorus and Gliscor if they become a problem for our team.

There is no rain stall without Vaporeon.

greenspr134.png

The Whore @ Leftovers
Ability: Hydration
Bold, 252 HP 252 Def 4 SpDef
- Scald
- Rest
- Roar
- Wish / Toxic / Fake Tears

The first three moves are standard. Rest provides complete healing (great for a poke as bulky as the vapster), Hydration means you are basically immune to all status which is the bomb. Roar shuffles dudes out and the last move I dunno what really to put there. Wish means Vaporeon is passing huge amounts of HP to his teammates, Toxic lets you own bulky Waters and just generally annoy anything not named Toxicroak, who you get curbstomped by. Fake Tears is kind of an interesting option to jack up Scald's damage and force switches, though I am not sure of an instance in which doing it would be the best option.

I really like the idea of Vaporeon, but I don't like the idea of Rest without a Chesto Berry. I saw we use Wish over Rest and use Toxic or Protect in the last slot.

EDIT: Oh ok. Hydration.

Hydration removes the sleep from Rest as soon as you use it (the rain required is assumed to be present).

380.png

Name: Latias
Nature: Timid
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Speed / 4 Def
Item: Leftovers
Calm Mind
Recover
Dragon Pulse
Roar / Substitute

Basically CM until you're the Great Wall of China, then just rack up damage with Dragon Pulse. Roar let's you net some free hazard damage or get a pesky sweeper out, while Substitute is like a neat way to boost your stats more safely. We could run HP Fire for stuff like Ferrothorn, Jirachi, and Scizor, but we can easily pack a counter for these dudes in the team building.

We could go with a more bulky spread with max EVs in HP and Def, but that won't help much when you're getting outsped by tons of stuff.

Don't we need a Politoed for rain stall?

186.gif

Politoed (M) @ Leftovers
Trait: Drizzle
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SDef
Bold Nature (+Def, -Atk)
- Scald
- Ice Beam
- Encore
- Toxic

Max Defense for taking hits, coz dis be stall team. Encore trolls SR and Spike users, and most other status moves. Scald gives burn. Ice Beam hits Dragons and Gliscor harder. Toxic kills walls. Not much else here.

So we have:

Ferrothorn
Jellicent
Blissey
Gyarados
Zapdos
Latias
Vaporeon
Politoed.

We need to decide first who to keep or switch. Then we can look at individual movesets. Any synergy discussion?

I would change the Politoed to a Relaxed nature with 10 speed EVs. This lets standard Tyranitar outspeed Politoed, and thus the rain gets set up right away.

Anyways, I'm voting for Jellicent/Ferrothorn/Politoed/Latias/Blissey/Zapdos.

My votes for the team: Ferrothorn, Jellicent, Blissey, Zapdos, Latias, Politoed. This setup will give the more varied and useful roles for the team. Very good defensive core synergy going on here.
