Is it safe to use rechargable batteries on normal GBAs?

It is obvious that it is the previous GBA/GBC as the newer GBASP/DS uses installed, rechargable batteries. Anyway, I don't see why using Rechargable batteries can bring any danger to the GBA/GBC. However, it could damage your GBA/GBC if you leave the Batteries(Rechargable or non-Rechargable) in your GBA/GBC Battery slot for a long, long period of time.
