Ruling Basic BREAK Pokemon interaction with Silent Lab

I am curious about this, most specifically the interaction between Silent Lab and a Carbink BREAK that evolved from Carbink with the Safeguard Ability.

Would playing Silent Lab negate the Safeguard Ability on the Basic Carbink, or would it do nothing, as Carbink BREAK is a Evolution stage that just inherits the Basic Pokemon's ability?

Carbink BREAK is the Pokemon in play. Because it retains the Abilities of its previous evolution, it "owns" a copy of Safeguard. This means that Silent Lab would NOT turn off Safeguard, since it's on a Pokemon-BREAK and not a Basic Pokemon.
