"A US man who triggered a major alert by falsely claiming his son was adrift in a helium balloon has been sentenced to 90 days in jail - and his wife to 20

The judge also ordered four years of supervised probation for the couple and banned them from receiving any form of financial benefit from the case.

He said Heene had "wasted a lot of man power and a lot of money in wanting to get himself some publicity"."

That's something. I personally think it's about time these two answered to the law for what they've done. Do you think this was a fair jail sentence?

Of course they deserved it. They wasted a lot of time and money.

dmaster out.

They deserved it. What kind of person does that, and expects everyone to just let it slide! I'm probably going to get criticism, but I think it would be kinda fun to be in jail for 20 days. I've never been their, but playing board games, watching TV, and eating free food doesn't sound all that bad!

I think they should of been charged for the resources used.

I feel pretty badly for their kids, but yes, it was definitely a fair sentence.
It was such a stupid thing to do.. there are far smarter ways to attract publicity.

Granted, this will get them known, but I doubt many will want to put them in a TV show or whatever.

The children must've been really confused throughout the whole thing. :s

Meh.

So, they're just getting the time and the probation? I think that's fair. Well, fair for them, anyway! And just as I was forgetting about this...

Read the story.

Also, a lot of Stolen can happen in 20 days. I'm pretty sure you don't play board games either. :S

The couple have already been ordered to pay $42,000 (£26,000) in restitution for the emergency services' rescue efforts.

I swear, people will do anything for attention. This is a great example of what can happen if you go to far. I am glad that they got jail time. They were just plain stupid to even think of doing such a thing.

Some people are not meant for this kind of stuff...you gotta be born with it

and lol @ the man getting 4 and a half times more days than his wife.

Actually, he would have gotten more if he hadn't had a job. He would have gotten 150 days, but he got 60 off so he could go back to work.

I never really got what the mom had to do with this. Either she never did something, or she did do something and I never heard of it. For me, I believe the dad sorta deserves this... after going a bit too overboard, but the mom... not so much.

Both of them fully deserve this, and they really should have a longer sentence. They honestly took up a lot of people's valuable time. The mom deserves it because she went along with it. So yeah.

This shows how person people can be, and how much they need lives.

She still participated. Although she didn't necessarily come up with the whole scheme, she still played a part in it.

Also, it isn't only them going a bit overboard, they endangered the safety of their children. This is not only exploitation, but it's also child abuse.

I think that these people need to have the brain that flew off in the balloon right. I think hat this is stupid and they are going to easy on them I mean this is stupid.
