What do you think happened to ash's father? I have three guesses:

A. He died (the best guess I have)
B. He is off in another region (not really to much credibility given ash never mentions him)
C. He never had any father (like anakin in star wars)

What do you think?

Great question. Never really thought about it *dozes off into space. Maybe he got crushed to a pulp by a metagross 0_o*

Ash most likely does have a father but the producers of the series don't want to mention it and want to only mention Ash's mother. To me I am guessing Ash's dad is somewhere else (probab;y in anpther region). It is up to the producers if they want to mention Ash's father in the series or not. Though we won't know for sure until he is mentioned n the series.

I think they should put his dad in. They seem to be getting a bit thin on plot ideas. They probably won't say anything about him unless they are positive they will/won't put him in.

As far as I can recall May/Max and Brock are the only ones who have had their fathers revealed. Some characters like Gary never even had either parents shown. I think it's supposed to be a running gag based on the games where the protagonist always lives with his mom

I'm about 90% sure they clarified this in a musical/play that Giovanni was Ash's father. I have a vivid memory of questioning the concept, but it was what the actors said so eh.

Everyone knows that Mr. Mime is Ash's dad.
@tylertyphlosion: Or that. She is always with him, and the way they stand together.... But I think Oak is just an affair. Also, then his dad would also be his time-travelling friend!

Given ash's appearance, Giovanni is probably not ash's father. One observation I have made about ash is that he posseses some unnatural capabilities and is often mentioned in prophecies. Maybe some psychopathic villain killed or abducted ash's father to try and prevent ash from being born (then again, that sort of plot twist might be inappropriate for younger viewers).

His dad is off abandoning his baby mama/wife and child to go have adventures with his pokemon.
@Zero, that was a NON-CANON PLAY.

From what I recall, an interview stated his dad would be used if they needed some drastic plot point, which was never needed. As for where he is, my bet is either at some big battle location where trainers battle, like the United Tower (or Nations or whatever its called), or a member of an Elite group of trainers.

Mr. Mime isn't really Ash's father.
Mr. Mime was deeply in love with Ash's mother.. he envied her husband.
I was going to write a whole story, but long story short; Mime killed Ash's father to be with her.
Mime lied about 'trying to save her husband'.
WAHLAH.
Eh? :|
This made no sense. Lol.

Ash's father is clearly Chuck Norris.
Seriously, though, I think he's just sort of in another region... if they want to use him in an episode, that's the easiest way to tie him into the plot (a heck of a lot easier than getting him back from the dead).

Ashes father, is clearly King of Hax, the former pokebeach member. How else would his pokemon like Chimchar and Pikachu be so good? :F

Seriously though, Ash's father is probably either dead, or in another region.

I think that Ash was just an accident, and his dad didn't want to deal with him :/ . I doubt that the producers will ever put his dad in for a new plot. Over 10 years with no sign of Ash having a dad? Might be a little late for that.

It's obvious that Ash's father is Darth Vader.
He could have died or is off somewhere else waiting to be used in the show once the writers can't think of any new ideas.

Let's not forget the interview WPM had with Masamitsu Hidaka, which Mew the source of all mentioned. He got to ask him about Ash's father:

Who is Ash’s father? This one made him laugh, since I asked it rather bluntly and simply. He explained Ash’s grandfather was a great Trainer who traveled the lands a long time ago, and Ash’s father followed in his footsteps and left. Then I asked if he would ever appear, and he responded that only if the writers felt a need to “grow” Ash as a character (personal note: we need some character development, please). He explained he was not a writer on the show and merely worked as the storyboard artist, so he had no control over what they put on the show. But, he said there is a possibility his father could appear one day. At least we know Ash has a father now, unlike other anime characters.

So Ash has a dad, and Ash's dad followed in Ash's grandfather's footsteps and set out to be a great trainer.

He could have died since, though. Maybe they decided just not to include him after all and mentally killed him off...
