His dad followed his grandfathers footsteps and left ro be a pokemon master

Its was in one of the news storys on the main page from when WPM met with one of the producers
 
that would be funny if jessie and james caught pikachu and got fired for stealing his sons pokemon
 
lol it's Mr. Mime of course :p

But seriously it's just one of those typical animes where there's a parent they never talk about.
 
People've said it's Giovanni...but then they're saying Silver (the rival in G/S/C) is his son...


Maybe we'll find in the last episode...
 
If it were Giovanni then they would've given a sign in where ash got the final badge in the original series
 
In one of the future episodes of the anime, Ash should talk about his dad and meet him. He could have a battle with him better yet!
 
I don't think his dad will ever show in the anime.:)
 
His dad is just a selfish bastard (sorry for that) who left his wife and kid to become a Pokémon Master.
He probably failed and now he doesn't dare to return home due to the shame of failure.

Kinda like Brock's dad :)

lol, how old is ash now anyway? 20? he started his journey when he was 10. how long ago was that?
 
if he ages 1 year per region my guess would be 14 because he didnt spend to long in the orange islands or on his revisit to Kanto
