Artist's Gallery Guidelines
Updated 10/25/12 by [admin]Shining Raikou[/admin]

Welcome to the Artist's Gallery! This is an art forum for serious critique of artwork. Before you get started, have some quick guidelines for you to read through before you submit your work to the gallery or begin giving critiques.

General guidelines:
1) Always be respectful and constructive, in both presentation and critique.

2) Be sure to like the first post of a thread in which the artwork was really enjoyable for you. This counts toward the work possibly being posted in forum updates and gaining more exposure overall.

3) Put thought into your thread titles, as they are the name of your piece.

Staff will select artwork from this forum from time to time to show off on the forum portal, our Facebook page, and the main site. This is a great opportunity to gain exposure!

To submit artwork:
1) Start a new thread in the gallery with the name of your piece, or pieces (separated by a comma).

2) Give a brief description of your thought process and anything you were trying to achieve with the piece of art.

3) Include a picture of the finished piece. You may also include pictures that relate to the process, like pictures of steps you took along the way, pictures that relate to details in the work, inspiration, or similar.

Approved forms of artwork that can be posted here:

About posting critiques:
1) Critique is defined as
To evaluate (a theory or practice) in a detailed and analytical way: "the authors critique the methods used in research".
Those who critique in this forum should provide details about which parts of the artwork they like, what can be improved, or what you would do differently. Offer suggestions, not demands. Critique is meant to help the artist understand anything that works well with their piece, or how to make it better. Remember to consider the elements and principals of art.

2) The gallery should remain a happy place where artists and those who post to critique where both parties can be respected. Be constructive, not destructive.

3) Your critiques speak volumes about you. If you are offering more helpful advice, you are likely to be seen more as a better artist and a leader. Posting bad critiques will only impact you negatively, so please put some thought into them.

Thanks for reading, enjoy the gallery!

One question: self-composed and played music is allowed in this topic or not? (Mostly classical/soundtrack music.)

I think making music would be fine! Music is a form of artistic expression, so why not?

So what makes having a thread here and a thread in the Artist's Studio different?
It seems a little redundant to have two separate forums when you can just request critique in your own art thread. Take mine for instance, I want people to be highly critical of my drawings. It's mentioned in the very first post.

If this forum is also used to find the best work based on a public vote, what about AOTW?

This forum is geared more toward those who want serious critique on their artwork, rather than requesting it in a thread with a bunch of other things going on. (like requests, since shops are allowed again) In this forum it is nothing but critique and more focused on looking at specific pieces. In the studio, you can ask for tips for improvement, but this is more of a detailed look at what has been done. Think of it as "Rate my Team" for your creative works. The general idea here is to improve in the studio, then show off in gallery. As stated before, the gallery also doubles as a portfolio to where PB can show off it's members best work to the rest of the world. As we want to better recognize people for what they are creating.

A decent analogy is this: The Studio is where an artist bring their friends to show all the sketches and art they have. Here, they can see how the artist makes their art and maybe even give some casual advice. Some artists may allow them to order art if they wish to (New shop process). Once an artist gets some really good stuff, they might want to hang it in a show for some more critical observation and comments. That's where the Gallery comes in. The Gallery will likely not be for everyone. The Studio certainly can be.

EDIT: I guess that's really an analogy since that's actually what it is haha
