Never giving up

I am writing a story, like Ultimate Battle. The first chapter is okay, but I promise it will get better. It is about Shadow (from Ultimate Battle) It does not go along with any other story, it is simply an alternative story for Shadow. Enjoy (maybe) :)

Ch. 1

Umbreon, Faint Attack now! The Umbreon let out a shrill cry that could be heard miles away and dashed at its opponent, Mightyena, with blinding speed. Umbreon disappeared into the mist, baffling the Mightyena then reappeared and tackled it from behind. The Mightyena fell to the ground with a thump. The rings on Umbreon’s body glowed eerily and might have been thought of as a ghost if you didn’t know what they were. Umbreon belonged to a girl named Shadow. Shadow was roughly 5 foot 2 with long brown hair down to her elbows. She had brown eyes and a very slightly tanned skin tone. Umbreon was her only Pokemon, and her best friend. They shared a bond that could not be broken or hindered in any way.
The setting was a forest. The trees were tall and loomed over everything else, vines hung from their branches like snakes and moss surrounded their bases. Mist crept across damp the forest floor, filling every crevice it could find. The smell was moldy and moist, and would make you gag. Shadow was in the middle of a war. The war had been going on for about a year now, and she and Umbreon were worn from the constant fighting. Umbreon dropped on the ground, panting hard. Shadow rushed to his side, soothing him with kind words.
They set up camp for the night. Camp consisted of a sleeping bag, a blanket and a water bottle. Just when they had settled down, they heard a loud explosion in the distance. Umbreon and Shadow instinctively jumped to their feet, ready to fight. After a few minutes, they started to relax, but Umbreon suddenly let out a fierce snarl. Then out of a bush came a raving mad Arcanine. The Arcanine tackled Shadow to the ground and was about to bite her when Umbreon slammed into Arcanine’s side. The two exchanged ferocious attacks and growls for which seemed like hours when in reality was only about 10 minutes. Arcanine tumbled onto the ground, defeated. Shadow once again rushed over to tend to Umbreon, but the wounds were much worse than expected. Some even seemed life-threatening. Umbreon’s side heaved with labored breathing, his eyes flickering. After several minutes passed, he stopped breathing altogether. The rings on his body dimmed then died out all together. His tail flicked once, then everything stopped. Time itself seemed to stop as this happened.
“Umbreon?” Shadow gently called. “Umbreon, please get up.” Her breaths came in sobs now. ‘Umbreon, Umbreon get up, please you have to get up” Tears now rolled down her cheeks and gently dripped to ground. “Umbreon, I need you, you have to get up!” A couple short breaths came from him. He would live, but he would be miserable. Shadow burst into tears, uncaring if anyone heard. She stroked his fur gently and started to sing a soft gentle song her mother used to sing to her as a baby.
Hours passed until the sobbing slowed down. He was her best friend that gave her unconditional love. He was always there for her if she was sick or sad. He comforted her without using any words, just his eyes. Eyes that had gleamed like rubies. Then out of the mist, a figure appeared. It was dark and mysterious The figure then spoke to her in a raspy, harsh voice.
“It’s time, step aside!”
“No, it isn’t his time to go, I need him!”
“Don’t push me girl, step aside!”
“No!”
Then, a dark bolt of energy sprang from his hand toward Umbreon. Shadow blocked its path and cringed and screamed as the bolt struck her.
“Foolish girl, you will be cursed now for eternity!”
Just like that, the figure disappeared. Shadow fell, unconscious.
She woke up the next morning, felling strange and disoriented. Shadow opened her eyes. Something wasn’t right, she could see clearer than usual. She stay still for a few minutes, adjusting to the sunlight. Wait, sunlight? She tried to stand, but fell down. She looked down and screamed, only it came out as a shrill cry. Her hands here black and covered in fur. She looked behind her and saw a tail! She stood up again, more successful this time and ran until she found a reflective surface. She looked in a puddle, and her heart raced. She was an Umbreon.

Tell me if should continue. Please be as harsh as you want, you won't hurt my feelings.

RE: Alternate Shadow

Written like an essay. Good. Cool, turning into an Umbreon.

I like this chapter. Though the battles aren't that detailed you created depth to your character right off the bat. You should definitely keep going.
