Card of the Day: Accelgor

What does this card go well with? + Strategy:
This was one of the first cards that I couldn't believe the scan for. Even though this card wouldn't fit well in any metagame decks, it still could see some play as a spam deck (like a quicker VVV) with Vileplume from Undaunted. Constant Paralysis+ Poison every turn while setting up more and more in play is too good to go unnoticed. With Vileplume, your opponent has no choice but to let their Pokemon die a pitiful death because of Paralysis, and Vileplume prevents Switch from being played. A good weakness and free retreat are also pluses for this card, even though it has only 90 HP which makes it a target for Raikou-EX and Darkrai-EX.

Overall Rating:

I believe that this card could form an excellent rogue deck. It could be played, and it could not due to set up issues but only time will tell. Overall, I'd give this card a 7/10 because it does have some potential, though won't necessarily be played.

I could see some potential for this in truth as a way to get rid of damage counters. 90 HP is perfect, free retreat is perfect, {R} weakness is meh, attack name is awesome.
I could see this put in The Truth in order to remove 80 damage + stall for 1 turn. and poison too.

Well, the obvious appeal of this card is in the second attack. Auto-paralyze is nothing new to the game, but it's fairly new to this format (Gliscor and Tentacruel being the only other examples). It's also important to note that this format lacks Warp Energy, Unown G, or any other effective way to break this lock, save Espeon. Because Switch is so heavily-played, pairing this card with Vileplume is a must. Sunflora can search your Accelegor out very easily after they go back to the deck.

Unfortunately, there's no way to reliably keep the energy on this card every turn since it always returns the energy to the deck. Celebi Prime, Skyarrow Bride, and Double Colorless Energy can help with the double attachment every turn, but it's very hard just to get the energy in your hand turn after turn. There isn't an effective way to do this, which is why the card will remain fairly unplayable, at least for now. Interviewer's Questions, Twins, and/or Cilan are literally the most reliable methods available, which is pathetic.

Still, at least the card is interesting and not just boring filler.

I have actually built the Accelgor/Vileplume deck and, it's really good, the only problem I ever have with it is keeping an Accelgor active, since it's a Stage 1, you need two turns to get him out, and Celebi23, it's easier to get the energy out than you think.:p But it's not like it's autoloss when I don't have Accelgor active, I use Virizion as my secondary/stall til I get my Accelgor's back. It's a great deck, once Sunflora is out and you have trainer lock, you can have a perfect setup in two or three turns. It really is the more consistent and quicker version of VVV.

As far as the card itself, I give it a 8/10 for playability, and a 6/10 for card art.
