I started playing back in 5th grade being the best in my class and on my block back in late 1990's early 2000s, the last time I played Pokemon TCG was back when the cards were "fossil" and "team rocket", I believe this is 1st generation. And now it seems we are in the 5th generation.

Long story short, I recently had a spark to "relive that part of my childhood" in a way and want ot get back into Pokemon TCG. Now that funds permit I would love to compete competitily once I relearn the game and grasp all this new stuff.

I was thinking of making a deck like this: (after hours of research this seems to be everyones fav/best deck for 2013?)
Blastoise/Keldeo EX
12 Pokemon
4x Squirtle
3x Blastoise
3x Keldeo EX
2x Mewtwo EX
34 Trainers
14 Energy

Any thoughts on how I can complete this deck without having to spend more than $200-300?

Also what do these 12 Pokemon "Pokemon" cards run for each/all together?

Any other type of deck that is better and why? Thanks, any input would be helpful!

Lastly, do I buy booster packs, tins, a big box of booster packs or just buy individually? I have zero pokemon cards, Im trying to have the best deck or ones that could win local tournaments at the very least. I would love ot have options to later on fine tune the deck to my style of play (dont know my style yet, back in the day I loved the strong tough pokemon) but still save as much money as possible.

Also what kinds of packs/tins etc etc? plasma freeze, neo, etc etc? Id love to not waste my money on things that I wont need...

Mainly what im getting at is I dont want to have 900 pokemon cards laying around and many be dupes but I also dont see a need to have every pokemon ever created just the good ones that would well together.

ok first you should not make a Keldeo/Blastiose/Black Kyurem EX 2 reasons
1. Because in plasma freeze they made a stadium called frozen city you can counter it with other stadiums but it really hurts you but the real reason is the second one
2. if you make your deck perfectly you can make a pretty good Blastiose Keldeo Black Kyurem EX but next set they are making Gensect EX and virizion EX so people are going to make that deck and it is going to destroy Keldeo so there is no point spending 100-150$ for like 6 months and then you have to make another deck another 100-150$ or you can make another deck

you could either wait untill the new set comes and then see what deck is the best and play it but if you really want to make a deck now then i am trying to think what deck would be good you could make a emboar deck idk

EDIT: Both translations of Genesect-EX and Virizion-EX can be found here. ~ Serperior.

^This guy is warning you about the wrong things.

Blastoise is a very good deck, but it's also very expensive because it basically needs to play at least 1 or 2 Tropical Beach (an expensive promo card). You can skimp on Beach, in which case it's not too expensive, but it's harder to use then and can be very clunky. Basically, the deck is playable without Beach, but it's going to be much harder to win.

The cheapest top deck is Darkrai because it runs on trainers (most of which are very cheap, with the exception of Catchers) and Darkrai is a promo. An Eels deck can be pretty cheap too, and something like Empoleon or Garchomp will be cheap and semi-competitive too.

I suggest a ZekEels deck or a Darkrai/Lasers deck. Pokémon Catcher are expensive, but other than that, everything isn't. If I were you, start looking for singles online, or go to a local card shop. They often have cards cheap, especially when they come as commons or uncommons. You're guaranteed to get those cards instead of shoveling through packs (that are expensive to boot).

ZekEels is back? Anyway
I think go Darkrai Lasers it is the cheapest but great deck for Pokemon Catchers if you cant buy them for 15$ a peice i can see that then i think go Escape Rope instead it is not as good but i think it could work this is a basic Darkrai Lasers deck it is relatively cheap

9 Pokemon
3 Sableye
3 Darkrai EX
2 Absol
1 Keldeo EX

4 Professor Juniper
4 N
2 Bianca
1 Colress
3 Random Receiver
4 Ultra Ball
4 Dark Patch
3 Pokemon Catcher (do 3 Escape Rope instead)
4 Hypnotoxic Laser
3 Dark Claw
3 Energy Switch
2 Virbank City Gym
1 Computer Search (you can use Dowsing Machine it is way cheaper or if you cant get Dowsing Machine get Gold Potion)
I think this is the cheapest tier 1 deck there is
