#15: Euthanasia

Do we have the right to kill others if they agree to it? How do we determine if they are fit to make such a decision? What would be the consequences of legalising euthanasia?

I mean, if they animal or person is incredibly sick, so sick it can't even move, then it's right. It'll put the animal or person out of their misery and let the family move on.

I guess Euthanasia is fine from a non-religious view as it puts someone out of their misery, the family has less of a burden, you can then be prepared for the death and so on. So I think it should be fine as long as you can assess the patient is in unbearable pain where he/she cannot be cured in any instance.

I find it hilarious how Americans are against it while there is still something like death sentence in existence.
Anyhoo, I'm pro. We already do it with animals that suffer then why not with humans? Only stupid people leave their loved ones in a vegetative state.

I also hereby predict that this thing is going to be through fast as there is already a black/white answer too it.

This should only be used in extreme circumstances when the animal or person is in extreme pain IMO.

Agreed. Other than this, I don't think it should be used.

So this old guy lives in a Hospital. He knows he'll die and no one comes to visit him. He only stays alive because he's given tons and tons of drugs/meds/whateveryouwannacallit. He wants to have Euthanasia. Give it? Or not? This btw isn't an extreme example.

The doctor has no place fulfilling his wish outright. He would need to call his family to come and discuss it in great detail with him before he makes his final decision.

Then that should be changed IMHO. If no one cares about him, why on earth would they grant his wish? I bet the family would go something like"OMG, he's still alive!?"

Why do you always think the worst of people and situations? >__> No one can say for sure that's what they would think.

^ He is telling the truth, anyhow isn't solely your decision as to when you choose to end your life if your sane? If the old guy wasn't sane Im sure the doctor wouldn't let him go through with it but if he is metally all/mostly there then he can choose for himself.

Which is a touchy subject. Alzheimer patients for example are hard to help. They have clear moments rarely, but to actually be there during that clear moment is the catch if they request euthanasia.

Yes but if you know someone which has alzheimers then you will not let them have euthanasia as they don't know what is right for them

Well I know a lot about this... My grandma has Alzheimer, and so she has Dementia. The problem is, she's always complaining she doesn't want to life anymore like this. And in the past she signed a paper where was on that if she ever would suffer from Dementia they must give her Euthanasia. Normally she would have been dead now, but the doctors ''lost'' the paper she signed. And so they told they had to do another test to determine whether she suffered from Dementia or not, and for the test she must have a clear moment for 2 hours, well since this isn't possible, they ''can't'' do the test. < Do you call this fair? The whole health care is just a big mess at the moment...

That's a horrible but common story. People are scared of euthanizing people because they think it counts as murder....

It's a very confusing topic. In the situation that the patient has family that can sign legal documents for it, then it is fine. The problem falls when a 97-year old widdow is in the situation. They can rather sufficat her, and lose thousands of dollars in medicine, or they can do it, and get sued by a greedy family member who finds out 10 years later. It's a very difficult topic, since the patient is usually unnable to make a legal decition.

I saw a story years ago. A man in his forties, used to play all type of sports. He came down A.L.S. He was confined to a wheelchair, he couldn't do anything for himself. His quality of life was gone. He had no hope of improvement. On camera he begged for someone to help him die.

If the animal or person is really sick and is dying anyway than it is right because it will free the person of their pain. it may not even be bad being dead, we dont know.
